Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Cap Crunch? i'm liking the look of our lineup more, with all the healthy bodies returning.
However, it might make the pro-tank enthusiasts cringe.

"assuming all those players were placed on long-term injured reserve to collect the cap savings. "

The problem is LTIR cap space is not as good as actual cap space - you don't collect cap savings if you're replacing players on LTIR.

I believe GF has it right. easy solution is to move a guy like hutton down if you need to make room for hamhuis.

still, seems like nonis like cap management.

If they win, great, the younger players will get to experience the playoffs. If they don't, well I guess thats ok too since it'll get them a better draft position or at least better odds for the draft lottery.

Not worried at all...we are only on pace for 82-84 pts this season and with SJ and ANA on the upswing we are in big trouble. But that's ok

With Miller starting we are basically guaranteed top 10 my friend things are looking good for #tanknation

I've had tix to see Ozzy twice and he cancelled both times...always does it.

Buddy offered me a ticket for the cancelled Sabbath show in EDM good thing I didn't make that trip.

actually, you're probably right. they'll likely need to trade somebody.

i don't think moving hutton down will be enough.

i'm interested to see how this plays out.

Ha!

I was at this Ozzy show at GM Place in 1996, when he had to cancel the show after three songs. I was just happy I got to hear "Paranoid."

https://earofnewt.com/201...three-songs-in-vancouver/

I figured he was basically done at that point so, good on him for still having shows to cancel nearly 20 years later.

Simplified cap for dummies (like me - no promise that this is correct)

1 Daniel Sedin 7,000,000
2 Henrik Sedin 7,000,000
3 Radim Vrbata 5,000,000
4 Alexandre Burrows 4,500,000
5 Brandon Sutter 3,300,000
6 Derek Dorsett 2,650,000
7 Jannik Hansen 2,500,000
8 Linden Vey 1,000,000
9 Sven Baertschi 900,000
10 Bo Horvat 894,167
11 Jake Virtanen 894,167
12 Jared McCann 894,167
13 Emerson Etem 850,500
14 Adam Cracknell 575,000
15 Alexander Edler 5,000,000
16 Dan Hamhuis 4,500,000
17 Christopher Tanev 4,450,000
18 Luca Sbisa 3,600,000
19 Matt Bartkowski 1,750,000
20 Yannick Weber 1,500,000
21 Ben Hutton 896,250
22 Alex Biega 600,000
23 Ryan Miller 6,000,000
24 Jacob Markstrom 1,550,000
Roberto Luongo 800,000
Brandon Prust 1,550,000
Chris Higgins 1,550,000
Total 71,704,251
23 Allowed 71,400,000
1 Over Cap -304,251

Need to trade/waive/demote 1 body - anyone will do, as long as they create $304K is space and reduce total at NHL level by net of 1.

To me that means one of Crack/Weber/Bart goes down - whichever as seen as being most expendable.

Where would he land is the question.
I could see Hutton being demoted, but I don't think he's top 4 material myself.

Maybe both?

Thanks for this!

The scenario is more complicated because you also need to add in the salaries of the players that have been called up as injury replacements over the course of the season.

But your list emphasizes the fact that the Canucks definitely need to move out another body before Hamhuis can get back into the lineup.

General Fanager is showing a current roster at the max of 23, including Prust. He moves out to make room for Henrik coming back. But the team will also need another spot for Hamhuis.

They can send down Hutton...or Horvat!...without them needing to clear waivers. Weber/Bart/Cracknell/Vey would all be exposed but these days, waivers seems like a pretty low-risk move.
