Or they wait for the Ducks to do something with their 3 goalies in Gibson, Andersen, and Khudobin.
I doubt they are going to send Gibson to the minors so they will have to do something with non waiver exempt Andersen or Khudobin.
Same as the wild with Dubynk, Backstrom and Kuemper (who has to go through waivers). They can't put Backstrom on waivers so unless he starts on the IR. There are going to be goalies to poach on the waiver wire once camp starts |

Lol. Emery's play wasn't the best in Philly, but Philly defensive play is an embarrassment. He's won a cup and with a solid team in front of him, he's a viable option for a backup in Tampa |

My only question is how Jonas Gustavsson gets to have a nickname like "The Monster" after years of being an inconsistent backup goalie in the NHL... Are people using it ironically? Because I've never gotten that sense. |

I don't disagree with what you're saying necessarily, but it's a little misleading to point to his Cup ring as proof of his talent level. |

I would wait and see how Subban performs in camp. In a cap world why spend the money on a guy like the monster who usually self inflicts wounds upon himself. There is no doubt in my mind that Subban is ready for the next step. Case closed!

Demoting him like that to the AHL, I dont see how khudobin is an upgrade over him. |

It was already established when he was playing in Sweden |

I have to admit I have always been a huge Emery supporter, I love his heart and the way he battles but honestly he has really lost his mobility side to side and will never be more than a back up. Playing goal in Boston is going to be a lot like playing goal in Philly as the Bruins are going to be in tough I would think. You never know but Chara has been the anchor and he is in decline and not a lot of offence anymore. |

Khudobin could be a very good option and will be claimed if he is put on waivers. Bit of an off year last year on a very bad team but the year before last he was solid. I would take a healthy Khudobin over the oft injured Monster anyday. |

All 3 of them are good goalies, but I just don't see the point of demoting your future number 1 (almost as a punishment) to replace him with a goalie that puts up the same numbers but with a lesser pedigree as Gibson.
Thats just how I see it with the Ducks and those 3 goalies. |

Yeah, I remember him arriving in the NHL as the "Monster", I'm just not sure how he still has it after all these years... |

My feelings exactly. He was kind of a douche as a member of the Senators organisation, but he had a fair bit of talent and was an entertaining goaltender to watch (Peters vs. Emery, all-time favourite fight).
It may or may not really matter very much for Boston that he's in decline - he's just a replacement backup goaltender, after all - but yeah... He's definitely in decline. Hope that he gets his contract, and that he plays decently against everyone but the Senators |

Unless plans change, Ducks want Gibson playing full time. Since he's still waiver exempt, he'll be in San Diego and be called up if Andersen gets injured or falters. Khubodin will be the backup and get the occasional start (b2b games).
Things could change depending on what happens during the preseason, but it looks like that's the plan going forward.
No punishment for Gibson since his development isn't enhanced sitting on the bench. Splitting goalie duties would be a punishment of sorts for Andersen since he became the #1 last year and remained so throughout the playoffs. jmo

They'd probably rather have him playing in the AHL gaining confidence than sitting on the bench in the NHL. |

What does Subban have to do with it? Last I check he was still in Boston, no? Vasilevskyi is in Tampa.
Edit: My bad, didn't read the first sentence of the blog. |

Yzerman will probably bring in a vet or 2 on a PTO tryout, he said to the Bolts beat writers that he wants six goalies in camp. They have 3 signed to NHL deals (with Vasy out) and one goalie on an AHL deal.
Then if hes smart he waits to see if any teams try to slip a goalie who is not waiver exempt thru to the AHL before deciding on going with one of the young goalies the Bolts have or signing a vet backup.
Who every it is has to expect to be waived as soon as Vasy is ready to play again. |

Bryz makes sense.
Bryz > Gusstavson I mean they both suck, but at least Bryz can play a full game without getting hurt. |
