Hard to see them messing up that badly with the 7th pick in this draft.

I wonder if the Flyers scouting staff has been given a different "direction", as in set of criteria, from Hextall? |

With the way the Flyers draft....their guy may not even be a consensus top 10 guy...I think they go with the big fin winger....but who knows. |

Hey Bill,
Just looked at that 92 draft....that was one of the weakest in 20-20 hindsight. |

It was just OK. Not a lot of future stars but a reasonable number of guys who had good careers. |

Anybody else high on Jeremy Roy? It's been discussed here a bit, but if we were to move up from 29/30th, he's someone I'd be interested in.
He's the best D available after the big 3 IMO |

The 96 first round was terrible. Zubrus might be the 3rd best guy in it. |

I agree. I have been watching wjc highlights. Rantanen would be a great fit and adds the left winger aspect we miss. If not him then maybe provorov just because he is a can't miss at d Morin, ghost, sanheim, hagg, provorov! Not a bad 5 |

I was wondering if someone here could help me out with Provorov in particular. Obviously he has shot up draft boards mostly everywhere and a lot of people here like him as well, saying they'd be thrilled if he was the #7 selection. However, I've seen quite a bit of video on him that's available to us, mainly on youtube, and I come away a bit unimpressed.
Granted he's had a few nice rushes on his highlight reel resulting in goals but I'm concerned about his stride. He has a short, choppy skating technique that I've witnessed quite a bit. He has above average speed once he gets going from behind the net, but again the stride concerns me.
I must be missing something here cause I came away with a slight more interest in his D partner, Pilon, than Provorov himself. At the the moment I just don't see the value in him with such a high pick at #7.
Again, I'm not trying to smart, I was just was hoping someone could persuade me and/or at least help me with what I'm apparently missing when I watch tape on him. |

I was told by a guy who went to a few whl games that he is one of the best passers and good hockey sense he's seen in a while. So I'm mostly going with his opinion but back to my first comment I really want that rantanen if available. |

it's kinda funny how often the flyers draft "the best player available" and that player ends up not being that. |

Great blog Bill. It is always fun to go back a few years and read prediction on players at the time of their draft.
Your blog is further proof that drafting is at best a very inexact science. A lot of luck is required when drafting kids who have finished the maturation process. |

I don't think that's a fair assessment. How do you expect anyone to see in the future? BPA doesn't mean that that player will be the best, it means that they have the best chance to become the best player, but at the end of the day it's just a chance. |

Raffl played 66 games and scored 21 goals. I think Raffl is fine there.
I am more interested in finding the proper comination for the second line. And, I don't think that comes out of this draft, at least for the 15-16 season. Maybe beyond, however. |
