Thank Ek. I took a break during the third period last night, and when I came back the Ducks had scored several goals to take the lead; exciting game.
I have also noticed that the stick work has been crazy with each team. I am surprised that more penalties aren't being called, and that more fights don't break out. I realize that both teams don't like each other, but it is starting to get a little excessive, in my opinion. Any idea if the league will clamp down on this?
In addition, with all the Russian interest by teams, I was wondering what is going on with Belov. After leaving the Oilers for the KHL, is he interested in playing in the NHL again? I heard that he left, because the Oilers weren't competitive, and that he was frustrated with the direction that the team was headed in. From what I have seen, he is big, can hit, and can skate (not a speedy guy, but he can move). If I were the Flyers, I would want to take a look at him.

I love when the Flyers hand out stupid contracts to players who's skills are declining because of age. If only this one was longer than 1 year.

Actually he wasn't that bad. And he said afterwards that he would resigned with the Oilers but he hated Eakins. And lets face, Eakins was a horrible coach!

As for him signing with another team, I'm pretty sure we still hold his NHL rights and he's going into the second year of 4 year contract. I don't know if he has a NHL out clause. Probably not.

I don't think that any NHL team holds his rights. I do agree though, there were stretches where he was the Oilers best defenseman but he couldn't stay consistent.

Flyers paid too much for a so so defenseman, when they didn't need to ! Hextall needs to stop that crap, Holmgren was enough

It is a one year deal, so it is worth the risk. It is not like he gave him a multiple year contract with a no trade clause. He knows what he has already and changes are coming. I look forward to see who gets sent packing.

Thanks D13 for the input. I personally wouldn't have him on the first line, but maybe on the second. If he had issues of consistency, then maybe a little less responsibility, and some patience would allow him to develop his skill set. Plus, he wouldn't break the bank, and I still remember how he laid a heck of a hit on Mike Richards.

He has all the tools to be a top pairing player, if he had the right coach and some kind of a team to play with I bet he would shine. There is a reason he's considered one of the best defenseman in the KHL.

Until they move some of the bad contracts and the young players come up, the expectations should be limited. It is not like anyone considers them to be contenders this year.

Asset wise it makes more sense to stay where they are and take one of Provorov or Werenski.

Outside of VLC, Umberger, and Amac it's not too bad. I think Hextall has things headed in the right direction.

the entire defense blows (as a unit)

you can't run out a bunch of 3-6 dmen and think you're gonna be a contender

they don't have a 1 or 2 dman

Yeah but at least Grossman and Schenn are gone after this year. How close are Hagg and Ghost?
