This is a work in progress, gonna take time for things to come together I'm afraid. Definitely an interesting draft and summer ahead for the Canucks!! |

Edler works well with Tanev, but I agree that if he's asked to carry a pairing, it doesn't end well and I feel like Tanev is the better player and probably our best d-man. I wouldn't be too sad if Edler was dealt but Benning has a hard-on for big d-men.
Hamhuis is still good, he played with poop as his D partners all year long and still played like a top 4 d-man.
Th rest can go (frank) themselves. |

I’m not feeling very comfortable after JB’s last interview on TSN reflecting on the Calgary series. Comments like “they kept coming and coming” and “they took it to us physically” are perplexing
Didn’t Jim Benning’s Boston Bruin’s do the same thing to us in 2011 in the Stanley Cup finals? I’m also assuming he must have watched how LA took us out in 5 games en route to their Stanley Cup Championship in 2012! By doing the same thing, give me a break!
This should come as no surprise to Canuck’s management, there is a recipe to playoff success. Management is very clear they don’t intend to go backwards, and want to get younger but are also adamant they won’t hand young players jobs.
Knowing all this, the plan next season is…

How is that perplexing? The guy said what everyone in Vancity saw. Atleast he isnt trying to completely bullshyt us with some ridiculous answer. |

Carol! “For me, it's far too early”? This is the time of year the marketers and spin doctors go to work. Lets have a look at EDM, how will season ticket sales go this year, pretty good. How about CAL? Ditto. Now let’s have a look at VAN, what are you selling? The masses will ask. Jake & McCann? Nope, “what have you done lately” that would make me want to invest in your product? EDM & CAL can say “We have, done this” VAN? not so much. Something has to happen soon to change that perception. This is about money and sales. |

Perplexing as in he doesn't have an answer, even though this has been a problem with this team for years. Fail to plan...

I think what he's saying is that Bnening should have already witnessed this in the past from our series against teams like his Bruins, the Kings, and the Sharks. It sounds like Bnening was surprised when most of the fans really weren't. This team has a good work ethic, but they aren't fast, big or skilled enough.
For example guys like Dorsett/Higgins/Burrows who are so valuable during the season when they out work their opponent become more ordinary and mediocre in the playoffs when every player is going at 110%. That's where other attributes like hockey sense, size, speed and skill become more important than just working hard.
Basically this teams more natural raw ability, physically and in terms of skill.
The defense also needs a lot of work, Tanev-Edler played well. But Hamhuis has had to carry scrubs all year long. also Dumb and Dumber were a liability, it's basically almost like a PK whenever they're on the ice.
Outside of the Sedins, Vrbata, Tanev/Edler and Hamhuis. This team just seems like a bunch of spare parts thrown together(I'll also exclude Horvat who had a very good rookie season and is a key piece moving forward). |

I dont think its a failure to plan, I think it was seeing and working with what he had to make the playoffs this year. Now he knows the types of players he has and who doesn't fit, you can't turn over a new roster in 10 months |

I don't think he has a plan yet. Marketing will be anxious to know what it is, you can take that to the bank. |

I fully appreciate and understand your frustration, but what you've gotta understand is it's not as easy as just going out and doing what you want as a GM.
You've gotta compete against 29 other teams for players services, you've gotta deal with the fact we've drafted so poor since before Nucker and Vancity were born we have no "pool" to speak of for trade bait, you've gotta deal with all our NTC's, etc etc etc....
It takes time to fix things, you can't just go and get any player you choose to fix that backend. Tell me how you'd like to fix it? |

Ok, lets trade them all
Do you think we can get:
1) Ekblad for Bieksa
2) Karlsson for Edler
3) Doughty for Hamhuis
4) Subban for Sbisa and
5) Weber for weber?
Or would that not quite be enough to solidify the defense?

I don't think that it's unreasonable for new management to want to take a season to asses the organization. Now that they've had their year, it's time to sort sh!t out. |

I agree completely with this, it takes time to transition and this is certainly what team is doing right now. The mandate is clearly to do it while being competitive which I approve of, I don't think players develop well in a losing atmosphere a la the last 6-7 years of the Oilers or Sabres to a lesser extent.
That said I'm still critical of some of the decisions that this mgmt group has made as some seem to be head scratchers. |

I could care less about how the team is marketed, build an entertaining team that is competitive and the fans will support it.
Market the poop out a team that disappoints and you get a jaded fanbase. |
