Pens need to make a trade today to give us something to talk about! |
|
|
|
Pens need to add a veteran defenseman for next year. That grouping is strong enough. I'd favor signign Erhoff, but depends on price. We probably need one more top 4 veteran defenseman for a couple years. Harrington doesn't seem ready to log 23 minutes a night in top 4 role and Pouliot I'd prefer to anchor the bottom pairing for a year or two. Ideally you move Scuderi and resign Martin/Erhoff for your top 4 as a combo of Pouliot/Harrington/Bortuzzo would seem fine for bottom pairing next year. |

Even with comeau back the pens should still go after atleast one top 6 winger for geno. That should put everyone back in their place. My player is tlusty.. true LW for geno that way bb can slide to RW and maybe a guy like berg to replace adams...
Perron sid horn
Tlusty geno bennett
Kuni sutter comeau
berg lap downie
adams
Those are 4 decent lines that can contribute in all areas |

Unless some team will take Scuderi (with no retained salary), it's gonna be hard to sign both Martin/Ehrhoff. Most likely, one stays and one goes in the offseason. |

So... do you think Sill has a very "risque" picture of Mario or something that he is using to blackmail his way to stay on the team? - Guile
Who is Sill? Never seen him play! |

Yeah, they need another D. I'm not sold on Hoff.....and by the sounds of it, neither is GMJR. I let Martin walk too, but I absolutely look for a vet D.
Bortz, to me, seems less reliable than Engo. Nothing but a 7 in my eyes. Harrington still needs work to be considered a viable full time starter. |

Harrington is below Bortz in my depth chart right now. And its not even a close contest. |

Tlusty would look good with Malkin and Comeau and tgen hopefully Sutter and Bennett can regain that bit of chemistry they had earlier. Don't think we can fit tlusty AND Bergenheim under the cap

Cheap potential options, what do you guys think of Tikhonov or Panarin?
I think there's a spot here for Tikhonov in particular. Either is a "gamble" but it's basically a free agent, who's excelled on a world stage. I would take the gamble of a guy like those over the known commodity in Sill/Adams.
Not sure how much $$ it would take.

Yup. They're at the point where roster players with salary will need to be traded to add new players. |

I was low on Arcobello when we got him, but waving him was a mistake. IMO, the best way we get the piece/pieces we need to bolster our bottom six is by moving Sutter. At one point, we had Goc, Spaling, and Arcobello on our roster. I believe that any of those guys could have replaced what Sutter is currently bringing to the table. Goc isn't ideal at 3C, but can handle it especially with solid line mates. Same with Arco, who showed drive and desire in his limited time here and is use to 2/3C roll because of his time in Edmonton. Now we have moved on from the two knowns and are left with the largely unknown Nick meh Spaling as a potential Sutter replacement if he were to be moved. I think its more likely than not likely that he would be a wash with Sutter, but I refuse to put all my eggs in the Spaling basket when I have barely seen him play at C. He could very well be a disaster.
Moral of the story: we are officially stuck with Sutter and his cap until the offseason. The handling of our bottom 6 center depth is the only qualm I've had with Old Man Ruth during this season. |

With everybody healthy I'd like to see Horn back with Sid.
But indications are we won't see that anytime soon. Will never understand why.
Also, if I'm Bennett and I'm first scratched for Tanner Glass and now Zach Sill I'd be pissed..
Perron - Sid - Horn
Kuni - Geno - Comeau
Downie - Sutter - Bennett
Spaling - Lapi - Adams
Not bad, I think. |

Saw someone posted this on another board...interesting thought..
Bennett has 13 games before he has to pass through waivers to get sent down to WBS. Had he played in the 4 games he was scratched in, he'd lose his waiver eligibility on March 1st, 1 day before the trade deadline. I wonder if they are going to send him down in order to trade for help at the deadline, then they'll recall him in the playoffs when the cap doesn't exist. |

Yep, traded Martin for him.
Must...have...more...wingers.
I'm sure Pouliot is ready for 20+ minutes/night for the duration of the Penguins march to the Cup. |

Pens have Scuds as a vet dman and he sucks.
Letang has played what 7-8 seasons? How much more vet experience does it take?
Good thing Letang isn't a UFA this year if those guys are looking at 6+!
If thats the D they roll with next year, ad Letang is out for any time, its going to be a rough stretch. |
