He'd be stupid to leave if he really wants to win, TB is absolutely stacked with young talent. |

"The business side will work itself out. I want to be here in Nashville," Suter said. "I love it here. I'm not worried about it. I'm just focused on playing and winning."

It could just be that he has to say that, because it is the politically correct answer. |

Nashville wasn't a legit contender with tons of young talent coming up. He could be BS'ing, but he's be stupid to leave this situation if winning really is the most important to him(I assume he'll get paid as the top player or near the top of the league regardless of whether he stays or goes). |

Did they ever discuss an extension prior to him reaching free agency? I get that what Suter said in many ways mirrors what Stammer is saying but Stammer's UFA clock is still a full year away. This is him saying he envision signing an extension a year before he hits FA

It doesn't mean anything until he actually signs the contract extension..
Cody Franson says he wants to stay in T.O, I doubt he does
Edit, not comparing Franson to Stamkos |

Then what is the explanation for saying it a year before the UFA clock hits zero? Sure he is saying the right thing, but maybe just maybe the "right thing" is actually what he wants and that's why he's saying this.

Plus, "I want to stay" is different than openly admitting that you envision possibly signing an extension this July. |

This means nothing, I mean what else do you expect him to say if asked? No, I am leaving as soon as I can get out?
I never believe a player, coach, or a general manager when I hear any comments like "their job is safe", "we are not looking to trade x", "we have not had any talks with x", "I am not interested in leaving here", "I would like to retire here", "I like playing hockey in x".
Its all white noise, these words mean nothing and just said to appease the fan base. Its like at a concert when they say "this is the best crowd ever"....ya right |

It's cause he was asked such a dumb question by the media.. I highly doubt he'd say " I can't wait to leave and play for the Leafs"

Meh, the tweet said "potentially sign an extension". Does he really think Tampa doesn't want him? Why else say potentially? |

So that's also why he clearly pointed out the Kane/Toew's extensions that (if he signs this summer) would be signed under similar circumstances a full year before UFA hits. Sorry guys but there are alot of ways he could have answered and been polite or politically correct or whatever term you want to use, but comparing yourself to 2 other players who just signed with their team under similar circumstances doesn't apply unless his desired goal is to follow in their shoes. Nothing is a given until pen hits paper but to discount his statement is ignorant and foolish IMO

Leverage in negotiations? I'm guessing he wants the max or really close to it and TB probably wants to bring it down to a lower level so that they can build a winner long-term.
Ultimately TB will have to cave in, but I'm sure his agent constantly reminds him to say certain phrases and words. |
