Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: WHL Championship Watch, Who Else If Not Jim Benning? Canucks' prospect Anton Cederholm chipped in a goal as his Portland Winterhawks forced Game 7 in the WHL final on Sunday. Also, a look at possible GM candidates other than apparent shoo-in Jim Benning.

As bad as Mike Gillis ended up being over the past couple of years, I take solace in the fact that Dave Nonis is much worse!

I saw this one too:

Move Phaneuf to Vancouver for Bieksa.
What would Dallas give up for Phaneuf? Goligoski and a 2nd? the flip Goligoski.
As for Minnesota it's Vanek or Phaneuf. Who would you take?

Carol - I understand the premise behind your comments on Benning, McPhee and Fenton...but...lets keep in mind here that Peter Chiarelli and David Pollie are the GM's of Boston and Nashville, they've got the final say in the drafting, not the Assistant GM. Just wanted to clarify they weren't in charge or had the final say, I would assume.

That Fenton list isn't very exciting, you can sign a lot of those types of guys cheap through UFA. Benning was pretty awesome for the Sabres, he's definitely more impressive to me than Fenton.

I'm admittedly not super high on Cederholm, if I had to bet money, he ends up as a career AHL type of guy.

Not to focus on this Dion talk but check out this one:

Darren Dreger: ”I’ll tell you this, Phaneuf is considered a better defenseman in every single NHL market outside of Toronto”

He's gonna go Anti-Leaf pretty fast when Nonis is eventually fired.

He's working indirectly for Nonuts; trying to get Dions' value up so they can trade him - two months after they signed him to a seven year deal.

Even Gillis wasn't that stupid!!!

I get that the 'games played' parameter is one of the only ways to judge an NHL drafting record... but keep in mind that both Van and Boston are veteran-laden teams with not a lot of opportunities for younger guys. Even Seguin had problems finding a spot in Boston.

I agree it is easier to get higher games played if the team isn't as strong or if the team can't hang on to its players. More players would work their way through the system. Schroeder would have played a heck of a lot more games if he were drafted by the Preds or if the Canucks were a bottom team. Corrado would be close to 100 games already somewhere else.

Sorry, I disagree with you in your reference to Boston.
The Canucks have been absolutely pathetic when it comes to introducing rookies into the line up.
Look at Boston... They supplemented their core veteran group with Torey Krug, Ryan Spooner, Matt Fraser, Reilly Smith, Dougie Hamilton, and Justin Florek.

Canucks are in a league of their own when it comes to rookie implementation.
