Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Playoff Roundup, Would George McPhee Fit as GM? As Trevor Linden continues his search for the Vancouver Canucks' next general manager, former Canuck assistant GM George McPhee finds himself looking for work after a shakeup in Washington on Saturday.

Didn't McPhee trade Forsberg for Erat?

Speaking of long-running GMs, Bob Mackenzie tweeted yesterday that the Canes have scheduled an announcement for next week. It's believed Jim Rutherford will be stepping down.

I could see McPhee as Carolina's next GM easier than a return to Vancouver.

Oh yeah, and Gillis to Washington (e3).

Oates sounds interesting as a coach. Not sure what his pedigree is beyond his playing days, which were great.

The Forsberg thing with McPhee is alarming but it seems like any gm with any experience will have his blunders.

He said that his qualms with Forsberg come more from the fact that so many misinformed scouts and people spread their false opinions about him. He's still a good prospect.

I REALLY hope Gillis gets another GM position one day. It'll would be amazing to get to watch his circus from a distance... Maybe our new GM would even make trades with him!

What if he went to Calgary and they win a couple of Presidents trophies?

Oh yeah...he is only responsible for the failures, and had nothing to do with their success.

We have cheerfully moved on from Gillis. Thank you.
Feel free to chat about him over in the Oilers thread. Thank you.

Maybe we could be Gillis' new *Pathers* type trading partner and we can rape rape rape him in trades. Lets be honest... 98.433333333333333 of his trades were with the Panthers. The other trades were made by the sleep doctor.

Even he wouldn't be that stupid to trade us Backstrom, Ovie and a 1st for Booth and Schroeder... would he?

Do you have anyone in mind?

It sounds like Linden will be in on all the decisions, I believe he said as much, so I am not sure how the dynamic will really work and what the best type of personality there is to match with Linden? Old and experienced or just a little more experienced than Linden... what will the power dynamic be?

I wonder if the Linden hiring was enough of a step to get the season ticket renewals going? Been quiet since, will FA ask Linden to fire Torts to keep the ticket push going?

FA wouldn't do anything like that, it's not about the money with him.

I doubt it's going to have much effect, until Linden actually does something, most people are going to look at this as a PR or desperation move by FA. Not to mention, Torts likely will end up staying one more year so that Linden and the new GM doesn't have to rebuild everything by scratch before next season. This franchise isn't going to be turned around in just one off-season so why not start the process off by hiring a new GM, change the core slightly and work on the rest next year when you have the time to evaluate the team and it's players over the course of a year, rather than a couple months.

I think the body of last year's work was enough to evaluate both the players and how they operated under the Tortorella system. No need for another full season of evaluating the same garbage.

If Torts is back, I will consider the season a write off... but will still watch. Talk about lowered expectations.

I watched the least amount games this season (somewhere around 50) than any season in probably the last decade. It's also the 1st season in over the same stretch that I didn't attend a single live game.

A lot depends on what moves are made in personnel both on and off the ice, but if the coaching staff (especially Torts) remains intact for next season I'll more than likely watch less than half the games next season.

I love my team and want to support them but there were just too many games last season that were just unwatchable IMO.
