Everyone denies trade requests unless it's in the off season. How uncomfortable would it be if the deal didn't go down? He still has to go to work everyday with his team mates.

Agreed. Keep adding extra picks and prospects gradually. The Canucks are good enough that with a few value contracts and reasonable replacement players, they could both rebuild and remain competitive at a gradual pace.
