even with his mattress sized pads, queen henrik couldn't save sweden. this is what happens when you have to play a team with a heartbeat. sweden should send a thank you letter to the IOC for the gift silver medal.

Sweden earned silver by beating the Finns. How did that work out for you guys?

If Team USA = Jonathan Quick, then yes. Scoreboards would've looked similar if not for him. Canada toyed with both Swedes and Americans in the 3rd period.

Sweden is a great team and all, but i don't get why everyone won't stop talking about them missing zetterberg, sedin and backstrom. Did the whole world forget we were without stamkos and tavares, two of the arguably ten, maybe even 5 best forwards in the NHL currently? And of course we press boxed last years' Norris trophy winner. Point is, drop the excuses, Canada was simply a better team today, way to go boys

Sweden needed to look not at the injured players who were missing from their line-up... but rather back a few years further. They were without both Sundin and Lidstrom... I would argue that the 2006 win with those two in the lineup speaks volumes to what was missing from Sweden's line-up - truly elite players.

Zetterberg is a fine hockey player... but he's not at or near the level of the other two.

I don't think it would have mattered in this years tournament. When you have guys like Nash playing fourth line and obviously committed to team defense... not much of a surprise the Canadians won - convincingly.

I think we all can agree that the gold medal game would've been a slightly more exciting and less uneven story if Sweden didn't miss their top 3 centers, right? No excuse there, just a reflection of Canada's depth and Sweden's lack thereof.

The banned substance is more likely due to his allergy medication that he takes every day. I don't understand what the IOC is doing. The substance should either be allowed under which case Backstrom should have been allowed to play or the substance should not be allowed and Sweden should have their medals revoked seeing as they only got to the gold medal game by using a player who used a banned substance.

I can't speak for Ovi, but Backstrom has severe allergies. he has to take medicine for it, and the NHL and Daly already knew about it. It's not an NHL banned substance.

Claritin Contains 120 mg of pseudoephedrine sulphate (also 5 mg of loratadine)

same ingredient found in Meth and Speed.

Thats why it's banned..Apparently u can get allergy meds without that drug in

and 2 or more players have to be caught to DQ a team.

Claritin-D has pseudoephedrine in it, regular Claritin does not.

It has more to do with the dropoff in talent. There is a bigger difference between Zetterberg, Sedin, Backstrom, Franzen and the guys who replace them than there are with Stamkos, Tavares and the guys who replace them.

I'm not saying Sweden would have won, but those guys would have made a huge difference. Playing OEL the entire game would have a made a big difference as well. What was their coach thinking?

Going by an article on TSN, its hard not to say that the situation with Backstrom is mightly screwed up and stinks to high heaven. You have a player (who has become the top center due to circumstances) is open about taking a medication, is told by his team Olympic Dr that he can take 1 pill a day without being penalized, there was a likewise situation 4 years ago that didnt have the same punishment handed out, and what really stinks--they tested him on Wed, and waited 2 hrs before the Gold Medal game 4 days later to let him, his coach and team know- you're out!

Im not saying the outcome of the game would have been different, but thats a serious blow to the entire team, plan of attack for the game, etc to be told 2 hrs before the puck dropped.
