Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Fall Again; Olympic Retrospective The Vancouver Canucks celebrated the 2010 Olympics and honoured the participants who are about to head to Sochi, but the team fell 5-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks in its last home game before the Olympic break.

I think you meant "Wednesday night’s loss" Agreed as far as Kassian goes, one of the few positives as of late.

Good summary, Carol. Weber's been decent this year, I like him as a #7 d-man...better than AHLberts. Kassian has taken a step forward this season, nice job y the coaching staff thus far, hopefully he continues to progress. He would be a great asset if he can develop into even a 40 point player and play a mean game. Richardson also had a good game, but another guy who's being relied on way too much, he's a perfect 4LC being used as a 3LC and even a 2LC lately.

Kesler had some moments, but he's playing way too many minutes and again in an ideal world he wouldn't have to be relied upon to be the main source of goals/offense for a team. Just one of the top 6 guys.

The rest of the team did not impress me.

I still think Bieksa will have more trade value to a contending team. Lower cap hit, swagger, snarl.

I'd consider it if the return was too good to pass up(has to be a top 6 F involved).

I'd be fine with:

Hamhuis - Garrison
Edler - Tanev

What if it was strictly cap clearing and involved prospects? An interesting situation that hasn't been discussed is picking up a bad contract from another team. Although it's incredibly unlikely, a guy like Brad Richards for example.

So the question was posed in the last thread "if gillis is fired who do we replace him with?"

I say at this point, anyone.

Well as long as he can stand around with his thumb up his ass and do nothing but make excuses, while this team is clearly in decline/struggling....then he meets the requirements to be > or = to gmmg.

Yup, because I'm sure MG is so happy with the team's performance that's all he's doing.

Newsflash—making moves isn't easy in today's NHL...

Not if you sit around waiting for calls to come in. Other teams seem capable of shaking things up abit.

From an entertainment standpoint having the GM post on here would be epic.

MG brought in Richardson, Santorelli and Stanton at a cost of about $2.6 Million. Bergevin in MTL brought in Murray and Briere at a cost of about $6 Million. The grass is always greener on the other side.

It was reported last year and I believe also this season by Mac/Dreger that Gillis has been pretty active in working the phones, I don't think he's as stupid as you think. I'm not a huge MG fan, but he's definitely not that bad.

Mtl is 5th in the tie conference, we are in 8th, we could be in 9th once the games in hand cycle out. Sure we are 2 points ahead of mtl, but again games in hand.

So you know Gillis hasn't been trying to make moves?

How many actual hockey trades have gone down this season?

Not many. And most of the ones that have were for marginal talent.

This isn't the wheeling and dealing pre-lockout/pre-cap era.

It's not like proposing a trade on a message board and checking capgeek to see if it works out.

You're going to be holding your breath until the offseason for any major moves...
