Don't look now but this team is getting better and better, and they will be adding Horton. This team is pretty well set up on the blue line. |

Nothing but respect for the Jackets. Although, I'm sure that will change after tonight. |

I'm really not sure about Columbus becoming any sort of hockey hotbed. Not because I doubt the sincerity of their fans, but in a lot of ways, hockey will never hold a candle to OSU Football (and to a lesser degree, basketball). Maybe win a cup or 2 and they might be closer to the way that Pittsburgh is with the Steelers and Pens now, but that's still a long way off.
But the major issue that I see with them is the city itself & its surrounding areas. I'm sorry, but I lived there for a while. It's Monroeville on steroids with a major state university attached. It's not a real CITY. It's not like State College with Penn State attached, but it's not a real city either. And even on my most recent trips there, it seemed to have significantly more sparsely populated suburbs than even those surrounding Pittsburgh (and Pittsburgh is on the low-end for populations necessary to support an NHL team).
I mean, I'm not saying it won't happen, but I have this feeling that it's going to be another Nashville when it comes to its upper limits of accomplishment. Unless something has really changed in a serious way since I lived out there, Hockey was kinda looked at as this weird thing that people played somewhere else. They were Basketball and Football people. Maybe they've converted, but I just didn't see it. My love of hockey got me weird looks all the time. (Part of the reason I was so shocked when they got a team to begin with) |

I think the time zone stuff is a big deal. Now 41 more games will be more accessible to the kids in the area. |

It will help, but I still think it's going to be a very uphill battle. It's still a college-sports-focused "city" and a more "traditional American sports" area. And it's not like it's a high socio-economic area like Dallas or some of the other obscure team placement areas to help offset its struggles. Though they do have a lot of businesses out there to help with the corporate support and stuff. So it's just a matter of getting it into the local collective consciousness. And you're right, the time zone change with most of their games will help.
Still an uphill battle though on a really steep hill. |

It truly is amazing what Mario has done for the sport of hockey in this town, if not for him we would be the exact same way. Except we wouldn't have a team here at all.
Very interesting room today.....

Flower deserves no criticism for his play in the regular season.
