Wow, that's pretty interesting. Ottawa is loaded at forward with depth, a trade to be made perhaps? |

Pageau and Da Costa were better at camp...but still..im pretty suprised by this...im guessing we see him back very soon... |

Yeah this is dumb ,Mika is an nhl player |

I like to think this is mostly "sending a message". The team, I believe, expects a lot more from Z-Bad than he has been bringing to the table... |

It would be more "dumb" to put him in the press box. |

Coach Maclean would of kept him I'm sure if he was allowed to keep 23 players. Gotta think there is something going on behind the scenes to have this happen.
Melnyk announces the team is over budget, Mike gets cut = Ottawa never being able to be a prime time team.
Somewhere in Detroit Alfie is sitting in his stall saying, "I told you so."

Travis Yost: Mika Zibanejad Cut - Travis Yost
Crazy.
So where's that Sens fan that was trolling the oil boards last year guaranteeing that Jim O'Brien was going to be the next Alfie and was going to be better than all of the Oils young guns??? |

If it's mostly a money move, they do save a decent chunk of change.
According to capgeek, his salary drops from 832,500 to 70,000 in the AHL.

If that's the case then the fans and everyone in the Sens organization deserves a better owner. |

Dude... really? On the front of your comment, I wouldn't speak if I were you. Sens have been more consistent better and IMO more talented than oilers. I mean after 4 or 5 high first round picks your team is still missing your top two centers.
I don't know how you made a parallel here with Alfie's past situation that most fans got over by now. This is a business, if you're able to save cash as a manager, you will regardless if your under the cap or not. I am quite appalled by the decision to take z-bad down, but it seems Ottawa might want Zbad to gain experience as a winger. That way the sens get to keep Pageau and DaCosta and Zbad if Zbad can play along the wing. I think that is more the reasoning behind sending him down... get practice as a winger, when you feel comfortable, you will play wing with Turris and McArthur... that's probably the most logical concept I can image would happen. |

Well, I assume Conacher will start on the 2nd line now. He looked pretty good in preseason(doesn't say much I know). And played with MacCarther for some points I think. |

I don't see this being fully about Money.
I see it more that he was the cut and instead of sending him to the box, he is going to the BSens (maybe since expected to be more then couple games).
Keeping Da Costa up he is making 825 vs the 925 Zbad would be making.
Likely DaCosta is being showcased and will be moved pretty quick. So keeping Zbad in the box while others are on the ice doesn't change much vs him being down in the BSesn. So yes they save money sending him down, but not really to the detriment of the team (I am assuming/implying that he would be the cut regardless).
Now he has bonuses that could take him up to 1.7 but given his likely return does that really impact likeliness of receiving that? (not sure what bonus details are).
Am I way off on something? |
