I think they'll wait and see how it all goes. I'd need to look it all up exactly, but if this deal gets done today and he's on the books for 7M, they'll definitely be tight against it for sure, probably forcing them to go with a rookie on the third line. But if they have to move a contract the obvious guy to go would probably be somebody like Chris Kelly, who makes 3M a year. But from everything I've heard they're pretty big on keeping him and hoping that last year was just a fluke. |

As awful as Kelly was last year, I would be apprehensive to trade him away. He provides stability on the PK/FO's, which is a staple of Bruins hockey under Claude. Turing the defensive reigns as 3rd line center over to someone like Soderberg or Knight, could become a train wreck. Roll with one of Spooner/Smith/Caron as your 3rd line winger. |

the difference between $6.5 and 7 (52 instead of 56 is huge). 7 cap hit is hard when it doesn't involve your players |

Yeah, exactly. Not only this, but 3M seems rough right now, but it's almost become the going rate for a third line center at this point. Deal won't be awful when the cap (likely) goes up in 2014-15. I think people tend to forget just how bad Chris Bourque made that line for what, two months? I just think people had really high expectations of Kelly after that 20-goal year in 2011-12 and it made them lose sight of how good he still was in his own zone. |

Spot on. If he can give you 10-15 goals and stay effective in the defensive zone, he's worth the money. |

ok thanks
i agree that last year for Kelly was a fluke... one of the better 3rd line centers in the league IMO. Solid defensive player, 3M/yr is a good cap hit for him
assuming it is 7M.yr, that'd put the Bruins roughly 1.4M over the cap. But you guys will also place Savard on LTIR once the season starts, so technically u guys should be fine, no? |

Yeah, definitely. Should be enough to carry the three extra bodies Julien loves to have throughout the course of the regular season. |

Given the contracts most goalies have around the league, I think he is worth it. A little high but it beats the options out there at the goaltending position. |

I don't think many will deny the dollar amount. The only issue I could really see people having would be with the length, especially with Malcolm Subban in the pipeline. Eight years is a long time to commit to any player, let alone a goaltender. |

Ty, what's your reaction to KDP's rumor about Marchand?
I can't believe the Bruins would even consider this. - TimBits
They're not trading Marchand. KPD is throwing poop at the wall again. PC even said on Saturday that he's done making moves for a little while. He initially said that he wanted to re-tool the right side of the B's roster, not the entire team.
Marchand's safe. |

Agreed. I thought it was pretty dumb to even mention it.
Marchand has a great contract and he's too valuable to the team. I don't believe that PC would even consider it. |

Ty, if this is true and the Bruins are looking at an 8 year deal for Tuukka, how do you think it impacts Malcolm Subban? I cannot imaging the Bruins will pay Tuukka 7 million per season to make anything less than the absolute maximum number of starts he can, leaving Subban as a 12-16 start per year player until he is in his late 20's. I can't see that happening, but with the difficulties of other teams trying to trade young, unproven goalies (e.g. J. Bernier) I don't know if the Bruins can get full value in a trade.
What do you see happening with Subban? No way he can stay right? Is he destined to be a recurring bargaining chip in every trade rumor involving the Bruins? Do you think they're better off moving him now and getting what they can based on his pre-draft pedigree, or rolling the dice and hoping he lights up juniors and the AHL so they can move him in a Ben Bishop for Corey Conacher type deal? |

If Subban develops into a decent goalie over the next few years - the B's can ship him out for a position of need - Good problem to have with Subban in the fold |

He's the same guy that said Joe Thornton was going to NY last year, and that the Bruins should *really* go after Steve Stamkos with an offer sheet. He loves shock value. |

I don't think the Bruins should worry about it for a while. It's always good to have some depth. Bernier played two full seasons in Manchester before he came up to LA as a backup. With him still having a three year ELC, I wouldn't start worrying about it. |

Pretty sure he was also an advocate for trading the entire roster for Lecavalier 3 years back. |

He's gotten pretty stale. He used to bring the noise with his articles in the Globe a few years ago. Now, he just seems to be more concerned with being controversial on social media. |
