You kinda knew the second Howson was let go by the Jackets that the Oilers would bring him back. Very solid guy who was in over his head in Columbus. Will be an asset to the Oilers. |

Or you could do like everyone else in Detroit, and hang on in Windsor, which is clean and safe. |

That's part of the debate on Twitter right now. I have yet to find an official Oilers announcement that he's been hired, but everyone including MSM is talking about it on Twitter, and it kinda sounds like he's been doing it for a few days already. Scouting for the team, that is. |

That schultz-potter pairing looked great last game.
Potter played 20:50(!) and was a +2. Schultz was a +2 with 1A.
I think Potter gets shat on for his play because he's paired with often-terrible Whitney.
I'd be happy with a Schultz-Potter 3rd pairing for the next 1-2 years. A #2 D man and ridding of Whitney would do the D wonders. |

This was just put out on twitter:
As @TSNBobMcKenzie reported earlier, former #CBJ GM Scott Howson has joined Edmonton #Oilers as pro and U.S. college scout.
I guess he's gunning for Stu The Magnificent Bastard's Job! |

Richard Cloutier: Oilers/Avalanche: Clash of the Titans? - Maxbone
Nice blog. One of your best this season actually.
Maybe I'm in a particularly good mood because that's one of the more thoughtful lineups this season.
It's as if Krueger has suddenly realized Nuge and Ebs don't need a high skill linemate, but rather an energy guy to open up space. Or that Paajarvi seems to like to go to the net when Gags is on the ice and that it makes sense to put your top shooter this year with your best passer this year. Or that putting two veterans with a future captain might let the rest of the team see where this team is going. Or that your most creative, risk-taking defenseman pairs well with your best defensive defenseman. Or that putting two struggling puck movers together might let them rely on each other's good instincts instead of playing off their games. |

How is Katz is trying to make the Oilers the new Red Wings? Because he hired Howson? Can you elaborate? - Muskoka88
Means getting a lot of senior hockey people on the management team, similar to how the Red Wings have a large team in the front office. Leafs started doing that too, when they still had burkie, nonis, dudly, ect. |

He's putting together a management team. Some teams have one guy that runs the show and makes all the decisions. The Oilers had Lowe, added Tambellini, added MacTavish, now have brought back Howson, and I still think a Sutter is thrown in there somewhere. It's a management team, which is how Detroit went from being awful to being a great franchise. Team approach...more minds...more collaberation? |

Why isn't Nuge with MPS and Yakupov?
MPS compliments both NUge and Yak. Nuge compliments Yak and vise versa.
Gagner plays well with Hall and Eberle/Hemsky. |

I like MPS - Gagner- Yakupov
3 of 5 MPS' points, Gagner was involved.
10 of 13 Yak's points, Gagner was involved.
There's chemistry there too. |

Oh ok, I see what your saying. I never knew they were lacking management personal......just thouht they never did well because of poor management in general. |

The Oilers didn't know the draft existed until about 2007...
And now they've forgotten anything but the draft exists. So it's tough to pin down why and where the oilers have been bad the last 20 years. |
