Yea the players didn't want to negotiate last year like the owners wanted too, but then want to play under the old CBA until a deal was reached hmmm I seem to remember that happening in another sport could it of been baseball? Where they striked just before the playoffs? And who was the head of that union?? Fehr you say??? Wow what a coincidence. Give me a (frank)ing break, they don't want to negotiate a year before it expires then all of a sudden want to play while negotiating?? So many coincidences here..... And the reason why the NHL has more lost games is because the average athlete in the other sports are more educated than these greedy ass stupid players who are to dumb to realize that league stability is more important than their personal gains. (frank) them all |

Playing with an expired CBA gives leverage only to the players, they would never come back to the barganing table. This goes beyond just the commish, the league as a whole (League, Owners, Players) is beyond a mess. I don't care what anyone says but we all know when this new CBA expires, be it 5, 8, 10 years we will be right back at it. The owners have zero respect for the players and the players have zero respect for the owners or the game. |

"Why not play with an expired CBA, while negotiating a new agreement with the players? The NHLPA proposed such a resolution last summer when there was near silence between the NHL owners and the NHLPA. As the September 15 CBA born-on date was nearing, the players suggested the same arrangement. It fell on deaf ears. At midnight on September 15, Cinderella turned into a pumpkin. Here we are, 88 days later."
Really Garth? I find it hard to believe you don't know the answer to that question. If you truly don't and aren't just spewing rhetoric, see the baseball strike of 94/95. The union leader took advantage of playing without a contract and tried to put the screws to ownership by striking before the playoffs. Who was that union leader Garth? Fehr played that hand already and the NHL wasn't about to fall for it.
The union refused to negotiate until the 11th hour (if you can call it negotiating) - this lockout is just as much their making as the league. |

Obviously the goal of this entire process (and any business) should be sustainable growth so that both the owners benefit as well as the players. The owners should expect to be profitable given the revenues and the players should respect that. The owners signed the contracts of the players, so the owners should respect that.
My opinion is that the 50/50 and the make whole are necessities that have been met. Not playing at this point in time is just hurting the league, however the sustainability portion of this process is what is being negotiated now and I think three issues on the table that the owners "need" for a deal to made specifically address this and I would assume that any floor would address the necessary revenue that needs to be spent on player salaries, so I think at this point its a matter of the PA biting the bullet and picking other areas where they can maximize their value of a proposal and getting on with it.
Not playing is losing brand value of the league in general, and hurting their marketing efforts and will continue to do so unless a long term agreement can be made - 10 year minimum (my opinion). There should also be something in the agreement that demands negotiations begin prior to the end of the agreement - at least negotiating points agreed to by both parties so that when the season is over - negotiation can start immediately with a significant penalty attached for not doing so. At least Fehr and Bettmen wont be involved at that time...

The NHL is an embarrassment and living the States it's a league that's totally forgotten.
They know the games aren't on and there's a lockout going on but they could care a less if the NHL ever comes back.
Just go away and start a new league with 21 viable teams no salary cap. |

Not arguing with you over the point that Miller can be whiny at times . But I am afraid you are mistaken on the status of Mr Bettman . He is indeed a world class douche. |

“I am tired of the disregard and the ego,Our fans and sponsors are alienated, and this is hurting the game. This process has more of the appearance of brand suicide than a negotiation.”
~Miller
This is laughable.
He is one of the many Fehr lemmings who has shown an absolute disregard for the fans who pay their bills...and for what reason?....because of his ego. |
