Bingo...

I still pine for the salad days of youth when I could go a Sox game with 10 bucks and come home with change.

You can barely get a beer for that at the UC.

>Believe it is $27 million cash in just under one year -- the first year payment of $14 million is Thursday, payment 2 is July, 1st, 2013, for $13 million
>Deal calls for $80 million cash over the first six years -- contract is very front loaded
>Preds talking big, but the $ cash needed really hurts them -- there is a very likely chance they will be floor spenders for awhile
>Huge issue is that Weber doesn't want to be there and knows that it will take a perfect year in every way just for them to ever have a real chance at the Cup
>What do the Preds do when Weber pulls a Rick Nash in year 2 or 3 -- if the Preds indeed stink?

- SnapitUpstairs

I expect the Predators to trade Weber, perhaps next off season.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Nashville matched the Flyers offer sheet. That means Weber is under contract with Nashville for 14 yrs. and 110 million.

There can be no one year deal...it's done.

- ArlingtonRob

I knows- I was saying if his motivation was to assure getting out of Nashville, don't sign offer sheet, sign back with Nashville for one year.

Trade him to the rangers for a few role players just to piss off Philly

Times have changed...ballplayers only made about 40 grand a year just before free agency started.

Gotcha...

...I'd considered that as well. I also suspect Poile and the Preds would have wanted a long term commitment from Weber, if not they would trade him.

They lost Suter for nothing, it was not gonna happen again.

And with those great prices - late fifties/early sixties, bleachers were $.60, reserved lower grandstand $1.25 - the Cubs would draw about 4,000-6,000 for weekdays - they'd close the upper deck most games.

Except on Ladies Days.

Sounds like you have a few years on me, but I do remember the '70's vividly...bad attendance on both sides of town, with the upper deck at Wrigley closed often.

At old Comiskey with 8,000 in the stands we would walk all over the park sitting in a different spot each inning. The ushers didn't care where you sat, except perhaps the lower box.

Kinda what I'm thinking as well.... Get a king's ransom for him next offseason and re-tool your entire team, making them stronger in the long run...

What was great back then - and yes, before your time, fifties - my dad and I would go to Cubs Park about 10 times each year - many Sundays, usually one of the holidays - all double headers.

First game at 1:30 - "Have your pencils and scorecards ready" - and usually no later than 6, second game would end.

Box seatsc- $3.50 for Dad, $1.50 for me.

It's "Cubs Park" and "Sox Park" - don't care what the official name is.

That is what people called them "back in the day".

Agree, the names were somewhat interchangable. During Allen's ownership of the Sox, Sox Park was promoted...Bill Veeck brought back the Comiskey name.

Evening everyone , been having nightmares....

Hawks do nothing ,

Cubs about to finally for the first time in my life start a rebuild , then Garza gets hurt and Dempster tanks his value by making the Dodgers his apparent choice, waiting for July 31 I fear I will have "Hawks disappointment" when the baseball trade deadline passes.

We've been thru the last 2 offseasons, 2 trade deadlines and 2 free agency periods with the Hawks and we've all been exposed to "Hawks disappointment" so much that I am now coining this phrase.

Whenever you are incredibly let down that disappointment equals "Hawks disappointment"
