My God, did Big Buff get fat or what?
- dan9189

Doesn't Buff typically pack on the weight in the offseason? If memory serves, I recall Buff coming to Hawks camp heavy and then dropping 30 lbs. by the start of the season.

Bolland, Frolik, Pirii, and Lalonde (just for Ogie...) for Ryan.

Sharp/Toews/Hossa
Ryan/Kane/Stalberg
Bickell/Kruger/Shaw
Carcillo/Moore/Mayers
Bollig,Hayes

Saad starts in Rockford and comes up to fill in for an injury to the top 6. Kruger is definitely the wild card in shipping out Bolland...the first AND third lines can play the shutdown role over the course of a game giving Q options in matchups. First two lines should score at a scary pace. I would still like to see Dominic Moore brought in to center the fourth line and play the PK similar to what Colin Fraser did when he was here. If Leddy is shipped out, I would bring in Hannan (although he should be brought in anyway...). Maybe Leddy and Emery for Bernier? LA won't get a better offer than that!

Keith/Seabrook
Hjalmarsson/Oduya
Hannan/Montador
Brookbank

Crawford
Bernier

"Nash had six teams on his “approved” list to be dealt to. The Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks we're the other five " - Tribune.

Not that the Hawks could have gotten him, but again, why wasn't Chicago on that list?

- StLBravesFan

My thoughts are they weren't on the list because the core here is pretty much set in stone. He wouldn't be the go-to-guy, even though he would have had a significant role. He will play a much larger role in New York.

I agree. As long as the current core is in place, it's going to be difficult to our any youngish, big time players here. They all want to be "the man", and that's not gonna happen here.

Don't buy it.

He's had experience being "the guy" in Columbus - didn't seem to like all of the last place finishes.

Presumably, one of the Hawks' "core" would have gone to Columbus - even if not, he would still be one of the top 2 or 3 on the forwards - he wouldn't be a bottom 6 guy here.

To me, if it's true that players don't want to come here - and they seem not to - that (along with Bowman's apparent inability to work with other GMs) is the story of the summer, and Wirtz needs to make sure he learns and understands why ASAP.

Who knows...but the lack of depth down the middle may be part of it?

I'm one of those Al, and this does nothing to change my opinion. He shipped Carter to LA too. Maybe inter-division.

That's Howsen's problem if he didn't take the best offer. Not like CBJ will be competing with the Wings anytime soon. I suspect Detroit offered minor leaguers or senior citizens. Howsen got some youth and players that will be in the top 6 on CBJ.

- djd

Not sure but it did matter this time and I have heard the Sharks made a big offer too.

The Western Conf. thing probably mattered just as much to them this time...

If there is a new allignment coming either Columbus or Detroit will most likely be out of the Central.

If I'm the Jackets I do everything possible to play in the East to try to sell more tix vs. AO, Crosby and Stamkos.

Agree, Al, unfortunately we are going to see the same movie as last year. Starting Saad in Chicago is a mistake. He should get a year in Rockford under his belt if the Hawks are going to follow the supposed Detroit model. This team is poised for another disappointing season, but on the flip side, maybe then there will be a housecleaning.

At least a few months in Rockford wouldn't hurt but I think they have a lot hinging on Saad.

Is there ANY CHANCE Saad is reasonably ready for the NHL ?

Don't see how, but could there be?

That's cause there is no fakin plan.

We like our team.
Saad is our future.
Carcillo will bounce back.

Ryan - Getzlaf - E. Kane - And so on.
Don't tell me these or other guys like this cannot be had for the right offer?

Load of crap they can't make a deal happen and take this team to another level.

Saad was "ready" to be inserted in the lineup in the playoffs and he will be considered ready to start the season.

Don't buy it either. NY provides him a great place to win. God damn I'm so pissed Nash is a ranger.

True that. I was just texting a buddy in Philly about how I better start bracing for the big let down in two days.

Granted what started the conversation was a dreger podcast stating he thinks Nashville can't afford to match.
