The funny part would be Nashville matches, and Philly gets penalized for offering a contract that circumvents the cap anyway.
- prock

except that until the nhl nulifies the offer IT IS NOT CIRCUMVENTING THE CAP

ya in essence im sayin it was well played by philly (if the contract is approved) and a bad play by nash because they had a lot of different outs before this happened
- DarcyTucker16

it will be the Schenn Brothers and draft picks for Weber

Don'tnow about anyone else but...............
"As you all know I have been writing a ton about Weber and Philly for almost a year. I have written that Weber was their one true target."

in all honesty all I ever hear from Ek is about Flyers...Flyers did this, Flyers did that, flyers about to this....hmmm thought there were other teams in NHL

I think the options are pretty simple.

Nashville is already paying Weber $7.5 m, it costs them another $6.0m next year. They need to spend a ton just to get up to the cap.

Over the year they figure out if this is what they want and they deal Weber before the next bonus is due in July 2013. Not a lot of money for Nashville to protect their top asset.

Flyers knows that Poile understands this. They will make very very strong offer to try and convince Poile not to match.

except that they cant deal weber for an entire year after matching the contract so they would have to pay the next bonus anyway

Yes and what were the changes? The salary of the last year must be half of the first NOT including bonus money. Flyers had a problem with it in talbot's contract last year
- PhillyFran

This is what you're referring to, and it's straight out of the CBA as written in 2005:

50.7 "100 Percent Rule" for Multi-Year SPCs. The difference between the stated
Player Salary and Bonuses in the first two League Years of an SPC cannot exceed the
amount of the lower of the two League Years. Thereafter, in all subsequent League
Years of the SPC, (i) any increase in Player Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to
another may not exceed the amount of the lower of the first two League Years of the SPC
(or, if such amounts are the same, that same amount); and (ii) any decrease in Player
Salary and Bonuses from one League Year to another may not exceed 50 percent of the
Player Salary and Bonuses of the lower of the first two League Years of the SPC (or, if
such amounts are the same, 50 percent of that same amount).
Illustration #1: An SPC provides for $2 million in Player Salary in
Year 1. The SPC may provide for up to $4 million in Year 2 and
up to $6 million in Year 3.
Illustration #2: An SPC provides for $1 million in Player Salary in
Year 1 and $2 million in Year 2. If the SPC provided for $4
million in Year 3, such SPC would not be approved, as the
difference between Year 2 and Year 3 ($2 million) exceeds the
amount of the lower of the first two League Years ($1 million).
Therefore, the SPC would have to provide no more than $3 million
in Year 3.
Illustration #3: An SPC provides for $1 million in Player Salary in
Year 1 and $3 million in Year 2. The SPC would not be approved,
as the difference between Year 1 and Year 2 ($2 million) exceeds
the amount of the lower of the first two League Years ($1 million).
Therefore, the SPC would have to provide no more than $2 million
in Year 2.
Illustration #4: An SPC provides for $2 million in Player Salary in
Year 1. In Year 2, the SPC may not provide for less than $1
million, or provide for more than $4 million.
Illustration #5: An SPC provides for $950,000 in Player Salary in
Year 1, and $950,000 in Year 2. In Year 3, the SPC may not
provide for more than $1.9 million.
Illustration #6: An SPC provides for $1.9 million in Player Salary
in Year 1, and $1.9 million in Year 2. In Year 3, the SPC may not
provide for less than $950,000.
Illustration #7: An SPC provides for $750,000 in Player Salary in
Year 1, and $1.1 million in Year 2. In Year 3, the SPC may not
220
provide for more than $1.85 million ($1.1 million plus $750,000
(the amount of the lower of the first two years of the SPC)).

Not a hard thing to mange around. Don't know for certain but I would I imagine that the year means a full contract season. So, I assume that the contract can be dealt and not require the payment of the first team.

And the second year bonus is due July 1, 2013, I believe first thing. So, essentially, they have one second to complete a deal?

Not the point. The Flyers could trade something ELSE to the Predators in return for the draft picks they'd be giving up FOR Weber as an incentive for the Predators not to match.

The Heatley thing in Ottawa was entirely different. Ottawa went several months without treading him, had they dealt him before the bonus due date the new team would be responsible.

they tried but he blocked the trade to edmonton... ya its different its even worse for nashville... they are automatically blocked from trading him until the 2nd bonus is paid.../ im not sure what your trying to say here?

I do not believed they would be blocked. I think the one year is a season. They would have lots of time to do a deal.

Flyers would get one or 2 of those picks back, but Nashville would most likely prefer the players. Plus we could stand to lose some salary at that point anyway.
