losing Pronger.
- SuperHenderson13

Pronger's cap hit stays on the books if he retires. But knowing holmgren, he will ask Pronger not to retire and just stay in LTIR like he with Ian Laperiere

Eklund: FLYERS OFFER SHEET SHEA WEBER
- Eklund

The Preds would absolutely be nuts not to match. 4 1st rounders sounds great but with what Philly's record will probably be it could turn out to be like 4 2nds.

Let Weber walk. They already lost Suter which is unreplaceable and they are no longer a playoff team. Take the picks and start rebuliding.

it really isnt... its pathetic that nashville might let there top player walk away because they didnt just sign him and instead tried to get the lowest possible offer... how about hes your captain and franchise player and instead of bargaining over a couple million on a contract that was going to be in the 100 million range they just get him signed and not risk it
- DarcyTucker16

Weber never wanted to resign in nashville ,so they where looking to move him .But philly wanted to make sure it was only to them

I absolutely love how people come on here to claim that the Flyers are criminal, bad for the NHL etc etc. Here are some facts:

1. Offer sheets are part of the game. -->If you or your team dont like them, then the owner of your team should have worked to negotiate them out of the CBA.....

2. Its not the Flyers / Red Wings / Rangers fault that your team is not financially stable. --> If your team is struggling to be able to meet the salary cap floor, then you should question whether or not your market is large enough to support an NHL team.

3. The Salary Cap: Every team needs to operate within the salary cap. It is ignorant to argue that one team has an unfair advantage over the other....

- flyersfan2186

I don't have a problem with the offer sheet. It's part of the rules.

It's the 14 years contract I find ridiculous.

Also the fact the owners are throwing money right now, not really backing up their commissioner in his negotiations for the new CBA.

ya so brilliant play by philly... like i said earlier... if your a gm and you dont explore all options to improve your team then your not doing your job... this should be a common occurance on teams that let their rfas go all summer

A 110 million dollar contract all structured in a way that has no real possible way for nashville to come out ok ,says differentl

That's not the point I am making. The Flyers are doing something to sign a good player. If the Predators can't afford it, then they can't afford it. They CLAIM they can, so whining if they choose not to is sort of silly. We all watched the Rangers sign Richards away from the small market Stars last year. How'd that work out for them? The Kings have NO big money UFA or RFA's on their team. How'd that work out for them.

There are different ways of winning. Avoiding big money FA's has been one of them for the last few years. Since the lockout, point out ONE team that won the Cup on the backs of a big $$ signing. ONE.

If it works for the Flyers this time, then it will be the first in eight seasons. Tell me how doing something that has historically NOT won a Cup is cheating or taking advantage of the small market clubs.

They are still 1st rounders. And like it was aid above, Nashville will be terrible and they will have 3 picks in the first 40 selections

Offer sheets are fine with me, I've got zero problems with those.

But the BS contracts like Luongo, Kovalchuk and the Suter/Parise contracts are just crap...those were cheating the CBA and the GM's know it. And if we can't use the word cheat then it's 150% circumvention.

- Juice

It is circumvention. And cheating.

(a) No Club or Club Actor, directly or indirectly, may: (i) enter into any
agreements, promises, undertakings, representations, commitments, inducements,
assurances of intent, or understandings of any kind, whether express, implied, oral or
written, including without limitation, any SPC, Qualifying Offer, Offer Sheet or other
transaction, or (ii) take or fail to take any action whatsoever, if either (i) or (ii) is intended
to or has the effect of defeating or Circumventing the provisions of this Agreement or the
intention of the parties as reflected by the provisions of this Agreement, including
without limitation, provisions with respect to the financial and other reporting obligations
of the Clubs and the League, Team Payroll Range, Player Compensation Cost
Redistribution System, the Entry Level System and/or Free Agency.

That's from the CBA.

Seen from that angle I'd have to agree, either way I doubt Nashville can afford to give him 15 mil right now.

Interesting philly would make this offer. Surprising actually.

Nashville will most likely match. 4 first rounders in the mid 20s is an underpayment.

- StayTunedMTC

How is four first in the 20s an underpayment? Go look at past draft great players come from that area including one of the bst players in the league in giroux. Hell weber was a second rounder. You draft well ou can get stars in that area.

ya and where in taht does it say the weber deal is bad? there is no way in hell the flyers didnt figure out the numbers to make it work (in new rules and old) before doing it just to make headlines

Nope ,it was a bush play on a weakened team in a small market.Philly made sure that nashville will only be talking to them about weber and no one else .That 110 million dollar contract is the knife in nashville,s back to make sure he will be a flyer on flyers terms not nashville,s

The NHL has defined circumvention, and they have found these sort of deals do not circumvent the cap.

I'm not overjoyed they went this route. However, if the win a Stanley Cup with it, it sure as Hell won't feel hollow to me.

- Jsaquella

No, they didn't. They purposely left it vague, in order to be able to deal with people screwing with the cap.

It's being reported that Shea Weber was actually IN Philadelphia last week so I doubt this offer sheet came as a surprise to Nashville.
