Hopefully Snider leaves Clarke the team in his will. - RooNosHockey
Leave the team to G. Make it officially his team. |

Owner and GM are different things I would think. - RooNosHockey
yeah I know...but Snider is a hands on owner and Clarke may feel obliged to be the same way. |

I'm going to do another fantasy tourney here next month, which will pit specific teams in Flyers history (example: 1986-87 vs. 1973-74) against each other. - bmeltzer
That should be interesting.
I always wonder about how to handicap things like this to reflect the reality of how things are. In my opinion, those 70's cup teams, while talented and the best of the best of that era, couldn't even compete with the teams of today in terms of speed, conditioning and strength. Reality is reality.

I dont think Snider approves or denies all transactions. I think Snider may say do not move this guy, or go get this in the off-season. Other then that I think Homer has complete control. Just my opinion. |

Yea, but what they lacked in those departments they made up for in grit, team work, determination, and force of will. |

I dont think so. But Comcast doesnt own the Flyers right? Or if they do, its not a majority share. |

yes they do own the flyers therefore ownership wouldn't matter when and if Godforbid Mr Snider passes.
Edit: just looked it up. Snider owns 37% Comcast owns the other 67% making them the majority share-holder. |

all of which means poop if you can't handle the size or keep up with the pace of play dictated by the opposition. |

oh i know, no argument here...
i would think Clarke would be a more silent owner then Snider if it was to happen. It would be cool. |

Conditioning is one of the biggest difference from then to now. Those guys back then didn't have the same resources as the guys today and now being a pro hockey player is a full time job. All year round players need to work out. Another thing is that, as time goes on, the game changes and evolves. It's so hard to tell what a team from the 70s would do today. The talent pool is much deeper now too. |

key to differentiate between comcast and comcast-spectacor. snider owns a third of it. comcast owns the rest.

I disagree. You might not win every game, but I think those intangibles would be enough to make a slightly inferior team beat a team with more skills that lack those intangibles. Thus the reasons underdog win sometimes. |

or underdogs win sometimes because statistically, even underdogs win 40ish% of their games and favorites lose 40ish% of their games. |

depends on the will. not like comcast would automatically seize snider's 37% once he peaces out. luukko is really running the show right now. wonder if he gets a stake at some point. |

While all that is true, you could say that the Russians were all the above in reference to the Bullies. Faster, more skill, more conditioned, and an advanced system. However Shero took all those advantages away by not chacing the russians, and when they got chose, to clobber them. |

How much control does a will really have though over a company after the deceased is gone? ugh I don't like thinking about it.
edit: come to think of it, I've been pretty happy with how Homer's been doing. Hopefully the powers to be realize if and when this terrible contingency does become reality that they're better off letting Business transpire as usual. People can complain all they want about how the Flyers are run now, but all we have to really complain about is not winning a cup, could be worse the Flyers could be the Islanders or Blue-Jackets |

True but I think the Russians of the 70s would get beat even worse by a Flyers team today. Their conditioning is not even close to what it is now. You also have to take into account that Shero was ahead of his time with his advanced scouting of opponents via video and what not. There are more resources for coaches today as well as more hockey games that have been played that they can learn from. |

not sure if it would be in the will or the organizations legal work, but comcast isn't just going to automatically get nearly a billion dollars that belongs to snider. |
