Uhhhm, what rules did he force the league to change?
If you are going to say wearing a mask, that honour goes to a female Queen's University student Elizabeth Graham. |

Great measuring stick. Argument in favor of Gretzky and Lemieux being timeless and still being able to dominate in todays NHL - maverickJ
That's what I thought. I'm surprised nobody else thought of it. Although, Teemu is one of my favourite all time players and even I didn't think of it until just now lol. |

I agree. My point was that Selanne is still a VERY good player at 41 years old. If he can put up 66 points at 41 in this league. He could still be very dominant in the new NHL when he was in his prime.
I hadn't thought of that during the argument before. But if he can stay this good at his age in a bigger tougher NHL, I'm sure he would have been even better in his prime. Which to me means if you take Gretzky at his prime, he'd still be dominant in the new NHL. - Domaju
I'm going to agree...it shows how barring the same equipment, training, etc that players from those times can keep up. Also what I think it shows is that the dedication that the players have now at a young age is something that happened in the mid to late 90s that he could not keep up with, because he already lost those years. If he like Gretzky could come into the league with similar development look out, especially seeing what he is doing without that kind of development. |

dominant may be too strong of a word, but yes, i agree he would still be a great player, he just wouldnt be getting 200 points in a season, and really, gretzky is a bit different...as someone mentioned before, he wasnt often hit, and that wasnt because you couldnt lay him out, it was moreso, mcsorley would end your life, or another beas.
gretzky would struggle a bit more just because his size, he wasnt ever a super fast skater, he just had the best hands/vision of all time. he would draw 3 players to him, make a move and then make a PERFECT pass and it would get tapped in.
he was the best player at making space that ive ever seen. |

When I used to watch him play at the Gardens, I wouldn't take my eyes off him when he was on the ice. I didn't care where the puck was - just keep watching Gretzky.
I now do that with Crosby. |
