This is a re-post because people seem to be ignoring this part of my last post. I am curious to know what people think when this is brought up.
Also, with this whole "then vs now" thing, why has nobody mentioned Selanne? He's 41, he played in the 90's with Gretzky, isn't THAT big (6 foot 200lbs), and still put up 66 points last season. - Domaju
Good point...maybe he continued to develope along with the players coming into the league and kind of evolved into a more modern player and in that way has been able to adjust to the game..definitely a solid point when arguing older players can make the transition, but he was what 20 in '92, when the modern began...it's bordrline, but GREAT point. |

That's because it isn't true.
He had an argument with his wife. He went ballistic, and slammed a door, breaking the frame.
His wife called 911 and then hung up. So police had to show up.
Yes, he was arrested. They later dismissed all charges. - Atomic Wedgie

Hasek.
In terms of #'s its not even close. - robin_steele264
He wasn't an option. It was between Roy or Brodeur.
Although I still would take Marty over Hasek personally. |

Uhmm, yeah it most certainly is. Three Conn Smythe trophies, more than any other player. Brodeur hung on way too long to pad his stats, while Roy quit while he was still on top of the game, he could have played another 4 or 5 seasons. And if only they had met in the finals to see which one was actually better. Oh, yeah, they did, who won again? - Prolific_Scorer
Brodeurs career best save % = Hasek's career save %
HASEK HANDS DOWN.

teemu burried what, 76 goals a rookie.
thats when he played in the gretzky era.
if u see another player come in as arookie and score 76 goals, we have gone back to the 80's.
thats what i mean by dif style of hockey. that will never happen again, ever. - big_dion
I agree. My point was that Selanne is still a VERY good player at 41 years old. If he can put up 66 points at 41 in this league. He could still be very dominant in the new NHL when he was in his prime.
I hadn't thought of that during the argument before. But if he can stay this good at his age in a bigger tougher NHL, I'm sure he would have been even better in his prime. Which to me means if you take Gretzky at his prime, he'd still be dominant in the new NHL. |
