Because money is money and both are going to command a lot of it. You don't have to be the same type of player to get the same paycheck. Doan is a true captain's captain but Semin has boatloads more pure skill. Both are good players, completely different styles, but good nonetheless.

Both would also fill huge, but different, needs on this team.

How many times a year do you actually watch Semin play outside of the 4 times he plays the Isles? If you're calling Semin trash you might as well call Kabanov trash too. The oft-pigeonholed "enigmatic Russian" that is prone to occasionally play streaky, just like plenty of guys from the US, Canada and the rest of Europe. Fact is you wouldn't be saying that he belongs in the KHL if his name was Alex Smith from Moose Jaw, SK and had comparable numbers.

I don't think anyone thinks Doan is/was really coming here. My guess is Semin goes to the KHL because they're going to give him upwards of $8m/year to come back.

As far as the "strange demands" my guess is that it was from the spoof article that Lighthouse Hockey put out a week or so ago, listing fake comical demands that Semin "wanted" included in his contract.

You are correct......if he was from Moose Jaw he'd have heart, and play both ends of the ice. So, yes, id be the first one saying sign him up.
For the record, i watch a lot of Caps games.....not just against the isles.

I think a lot of people read it and actually believed it, probably spread around a bit. I think it's stupid they do that (they did another article like that, can't remember about what) because I got about 3 or 4 paragraphs into it before I realized it was so absurd that it must not be true.

I don't care about the Olympics or every player from Country X. Even if I believed that you were correct that 95% of Russians have no heart, you'd still have to take it on a case-by-case basis. You don't take an automatic pass because of someones nationality, not without doing your homework.

How often do NHL players call out teamates in the media? That alone should tell you something.

Ovechkin and Semin did whatever they wanted under Boudreau. Theres a reason why Ovie and Semin didnt see the same ice under Dale Hunter. This game is played on both ends of the ice.

Ovechkin gets a pass because of his battle level......
