if it wasnt for the 1st then i could see it happening, for a 2nd instead, that 1st could be top 5 and if they win the lottery then there goes mckinnen (sp) which from reports i have read could be a generational type talent
and a 4th + streit isnt good enough to get a 1st+gionta - dmarsden2988
Streit has seen allot of injuries, the last two years. They could have both him and Markov, on long term IR. Want Komiserek back? Send us a 7th rounder and we'll send him and a 5th rounder back! |

The problem is, players lose allot as well. What if you were 38 years old, trying to get one more contract. Would you want to sit out another year and come back at 39? By then, your reflexes and timing are too far gone. How many players never came back from the last labour stoppage? That is one good reason that the Maple Leafs should just say no to Luongo. If next year is wipped out, then Luongo is 34 years old and missed a hole year, losing his timing and reflexes.
I'm starting to think, that we're about to either lose a half a season or a full one. The last experience said, the fans will come back, if you offer them some crumbs. The owners may stand united, to get an NFL type deal. - JohnnyReb
I'm not saying actions don't have repercussions, it was just a ridiculous statement to say that the NHLPA has little leverage.
And if you think that we're going to lose half a season because of the first proposal that is hilarious. |

What are you talking about? The players do have leverage over the owners because they can stop a season in which the owners cannot make money. That's leverage. - Pomegrant
They can also go play in other leagues, including the KHL, for comparable salaries in some cases or decent pay in other cases. Owners in a largely profitable league however don't make a single cent in a lockout. That's leverage aplenty.
What chiefly caused the lost year before I believe was that Goodenow didn't realize just how dire the situation was and thought he could use this leverage, but most the owners were losing money. He didn't think they'd take it as far as they did (and his hopes that some teams would fold so that the league became a "marketplace" system was ludicrous for even the players). In this case, I believe 13 owners are paying out of their pockets to keep it rolling right now while something of 6 others are breaking even. Fehr seems a smarter guy, and to me there really shouldn't be many differences from how things are working now. I believe that 3-7 stupid teams (the ones that spend way more than they should) should lose money and shouldn't be protected from themselves. If you have a low budget, you play it like the Avalanche do until you get a really competitive team; that's just intelligent building.
We have parity right now, but the nature of the game is that 14 teams miss the playoffs every year, so a few teams try to stay competitive by spending and spending when really they should be trading away for future assets and waiting in the weeds a few years, and we all know who those teams are. |

In terms of the Streit deal offered, the Islanders didn't know what they were doing if that was actually being offered, because Montreal doesn't lose money so they can eat the Gomez cap hit; they're not that desperate in trading him.
If they had offered it to a team that was eating cap hit that was losing money and it was a rescue, it might have worked.

What they offered:
1. Reduce playershockey related revenues from 57% to 46%.
2. You play 10 NHL seasons before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
3. The maxcontract length you can sign for is fiveyears.
4. No more salary arbitration for players.
5. Standard entry-level contracts would be five years in length.
What will happen:
1. 49%
2. No change from current system
3. Six years
4. No more arbritration
5. Four years |

This is awful and disgusting. Just when I thought I'd seen it all.. this is a joke and disrespectful to the players that ARE THE REASON WE HAVE A LEAGUE IN THE FIRST PLACE~!
if you can only have a max 5 year contract, yet have to wait 10 years before being an UFA, i guess that means you're an RFA? so if you start at 20, you're 25.. still an RFA? have to wait until you're 30 to be a UFA? and then the next team you sign with is where you stay for the rest of your career, pending a trade.
lots of RFAs= lots of teams overpaying to get them.. and then the draft pick compensations.. yeesh what a mess.
its a shame, but its expected. the world is run by people like this. Yes, I know this is a starting point and it will be negotiated to a middle ground.. but its disrespectful.
The NHLPA will read this and then have a good time laughing about it at a bar before actually trying to bring sense to the NHL. what a joke this is. we may lose the season because of the idiots running the NHL. |

i was wondering when your doom and gloom post was coming
its the 1st offer, im not worried until multiple offers are made and if they are still far apart, the 1st offers are always going to be crazy as it is what the absolute dream deal would be but fully knowing its not going to happen |

I imagine MartysBetter88's final post as:
Earlier in the day, at 10:00AM TG annouces the Devils have recalled Jay Leach strictly as a depth move one day after Elias goes down with a groin injury. They also recalled Anderson, but he obviously will ignore that information.
Later that day, 2:34pm:
MartysBetter88:
"OK, so we lose a LW in Elias to injury, and they call up...
JAY (frank)ING LEACH?!?!?!
That's our big master plan? Jay LEACH? That's how Lou is gonna cure Cancer? WTF??!!! We might as well fold and move to Quebec! This team is so DOOMED!!! First Zach leave us in limbo...we'll never recover. Never. He was such a good leader. He could've run for President of the Universe that's how excellent of a team leader he was. So good, in fact, that he left. Because this team was so DOOMED and he couldn't stand to be around this poop stain of a franchise anymore!
Next thing you know they raise beer prices because we're (frank)ed, then they raise parking because we're (frank)ed...Vanderbeek has us all bent over the front of his Bentley. We're sooooo DOOOOOOMED!!!
Let me throw in some obligatory line combos:
Kovy-Zajac-Zubrus
Barch-Henrique-Tedenby
Leach-JJ-Clarkson
(frank), wait...hsould've put tedenby on the LW, here's another
Kovy-zajac-zubrus
tedenby-henrique-barch
leach-jj-clarkson
damn, forgot Barch was a 3rd-4th liner at best, let me try again:
Kovy-zajac-zubrus
tedenby-JJ-Clarkson
Leach-Henrique-Barch
Waaaaait...can't put henrique on the 3rd, hold on, lets try again:
kovy-Zajac-Zubrus
tedenby-Hnerique-Leach
Barch-JJ-Clarkson
DAMN, THAT DOESNT LOOK RIGHT, I CANT FIGURE OUT THE RIGHT LINE COMBOS!!! WE'RE SO DOOMED AND (frank)ED SO HARD BY THE COCK OF THE NHL, I CAN'T PROCESS ALL THESE LINE COMBOS! THEY THINK LEACH IS GONNA FIX THE LINE COMBOS IT WONT WORK WE DONT HAVE PARISE ANYMROE....
THEY SIGNED KRYS BARCH TO REPLACE PARISE! SERIOUSLY! WHO THE (frank) NAMES THEIR KID KRYS WITH A "K" AND A "Y"..... WE'RE SO (frank)ED THEY MIGHT AS WELL MOVE US TO QUEBEC RIGHT NOW!!!1
