Those guys were signed so as not to rush the young guys. - burn
well, if Connolly would have signed a 1 yr deal, I'm sure Burkie would have done it...
Lombardi was punishment for Franson for Lebda

Frattin replaces Mac though, and if not Frattin, JVR certainly does. Lombardi and Connolly are afterthoughts, MacArthur actually has trade value, he's the one they should be trying to trade for upgrades.
any deal involving Connolly or Lombardi will involve something coming back we won't like - Big_Lightnin
What was being discussed was trading Connolly and Lombardi at the deadline. Keeping Lombardi just to trade him at the deadline doesn't make much sense. |

It would be better if Florida took Luongo because it opens the door to acquire Markstrom. |

still, that was going on hours ago.
then my point stands further - why waste a spot with both of them in hopes of getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick at abosolute best, while Fratting and Kadri miss out on NHL time.
both need to be up full time now.

probably, but I don;t like it from a Leafs stand point either, considering chemistry with Lupul is largely responsible for Kessel going PPG. When Lupul went down, Kessel's production dropped of dramatically.
Ideally they find a way to add a center AND keep Lupul and Kessel together. - Big_Lightnin
Stastny was a 70-80 point two-way center in his mid 20s. If the offer was Lupul for Stastny, the Leafs would be insane to pass on it. Lupul had a very good year but regardless of what professor Jimmy_T said, buying low and selling high is exactly what the Leafs should do with Lupul if they can. Believe it or not, one of JVR, Kadri and Frattin, could replace Lupul from within. The same can't be said at center. |

but...but... Kadri and JVR are going to duke it out for 1st line center
Said this yesterday - looking at Lupul, last year wasn't really overacheiving when you consider what he did elsewhere with the ice-time he was given.
He's been solid for ~25goals ~50 pts getting 2nd and 3rd line minutes, and was on similar pace even in the injury shortened years...
His "career year" in goals and points can be just as much a product of getting 1st line minutes and #1 PP time...
I would do whatever possible to avoid trading him, unless for a dramatically clear win.
Stastny, if he returned to form, would be a clear win. If he didn't, it's not a good trade IMO...
When you consider Leafs would likely have to make it Lupul +, I don't like it. |

Two men, one spot. And acquiring Stastny for Lupul would eliminate the need for that silly competition altogether.
Yes it was. Lupul overachieved and had a career year. It happens to a lot of players every year. Stastny, in 200 fewer NHL games, has more points than Lupul does. And he's two years younger. And players center. Stastny has scored 70+ points three times, at a much younger age.
If the offer was Lupul for Stastny, which was the original question, the Leafs would be crazy to say no.
