If he was 30+ sure, but he's only a few years removed from playing college hockey. I'm not saying he's going to jump back into the position without missing a beat but it's not like he doesn't know how to play it. It might be a disaster, who knows, but considering Toronto's needs, it's worth trying it out.

yup, they need youth, skill and size down the middle......no harm in experimenting.

you're right. that's why all those big wingers switch to centre 4 years into their pro career.
- DoubleDown

....unless of course those wingers where actually centremen most of their life.

It's plan B. What do you do if you try to trade for #1 centres, and other teams simply say no? It's Bozak, or try something new.

So exciting that I would rather talk about the alumni games. This will be the true point of interest! Leafs should get Gartner, Anderson, Sundin, Courtnall, Leeman, Iafrate, and anyone else who can still skate. Corson, Neiuwendyk, Roberts, and Domi! Salming too! Eddie O!!! Damphousse!!! Let's cream those Wings!!!! Ya!!!!

What does it mean when the Leafs did NOT file arbitration with Franson, Scrivens?

Wait, where's Sundin
Or am I just wrong and he isn't qualified or something? I'm not sure what makes someone an alumni other than playing for their team for a while and being retired (is it because he finished with the Nucks or just straight up said no?)

Lots of people have played different positions.

Using Leaf players

Wendel Clark played D his entire career until he was drafted and played for the Leafs. He played Left Wing for his entire pro career.
Jake Gardiner was a forward who was converted to playing D.

I would think that switching from forward to D and vice versa is just as hard as switching from wing to centre.

So Burke has already acquired the #1 center in JVR.

The Leafs did it with Kulemin because they hope to bring down his salary from last year, instead of having to give him the mandatory raise a qualifying offer would give. It really doesn't mean anything if the team doesn't elect for arbitration with either Franson or Scrivens. They both could file, I guess, but in Franson's case, he doesn't want to commit (which filing for arbitration would do) just yet until he knows his potential role bettter.

it means that both sides are working towards an agreement and are not at an impasse.

thornton, malkin etc.......obviously JVR is nowhere near that class, but many big centremen don't play 'big'

Playing center sucks, you gotta skate all over the place and your leg muscles get tired.

The problem here is that he's actually a big center who switched to the wing.
