Second time in a month that I've heard Kessel secretly wants out of the Toronto spotlight....don't know about whether he has NTC /NMC....trade him for Getz or Ryan in a hockey deal if he wants out

Ryan - 1987 - 6'2 215bs
- 2nd overall
- Avg about 63pts per year so far
- Plays with some grit, more of a two way guy
Kessel - 1987 - 6'0 205lbs
- 5th overall
- Avg about 65pts per year so far
- Pure sniper, soft
Id say its damn close, but personally would rather Ryan over the two. - noename09
That was my gut too, but Ryan has been playing with Getzlaf and Perry pretty much his whole career. Obviously there's talent there, but Kessel's put up those numbers playing with lesser players (besides Savard, but he was not entering his prime then) his entire career. Hard to gauge whether or not he'd put up the same numbers on a line with Lupul, JVR/Bozak.
Trying JVR at center is currently a desperation experiment. They can't really find anybody to fill the hole so they're going to make due with what they have. It's not crazy to at least give it a shot but it is a little crazy to expect it to work. The reason why it's a little crazy to expect it to work is because it usually takes centers years to get above 50% in the face-off circle. Considering JVR has taken 10, and lost 8, face-offs in the NHL, odds are you are exactly right about playing wing by November. - Two_For_Truth
He is not a center. JVR needs to keep his head down and just drive the net. Not worry about anything else. When he does that he is spectacular. Ask him to do anything else and his game deteriorates. Nothing wrong with flirting with the idea of him playing center in the preseason, but I would not think he is the answer long term to size problems down the middle. Yes, he is tall and at times very strong. He has tremendous speed, but like Carter is probably best suited for the wing.
