Listen. In the best case scenario, Eller will become a Plekanec-type of 2nd center. In the worst case scenario, he'll be a 15g, 15a 3rd center. Either way, he'll suck if you compare him to a legit 1st center.

Well that's perfect, because he didn't play at center for something like the last 2 years.

He wasnt playing center in Hamilton?

I understand this is a depth chart but ain't no way we could use Leblanc as a 4th line center. Might as well not consider him a center anymore at this point - there's simply no room for him at this position.
- PRICEless

why not? if he's good on faceoffs, responsible defensively, adds some Kadri to his frame... why can't he be an effective 4th-line centre playing with guys like Moen, Prust and Bournival?

Because he's more talented and needs better linemates and more icetime to produce?

He'll be a 2nd/3rd line winger IMO.

Someone has to fill the 4th-line-guy-who-gets-PP-time-and-gives-interviews-in-French role now that Matty Darche has flown the coup.

Don,t know. But his shoulder injury forced him to play at wing for a while. And then In Montreal he was on the wing as well. So at the end of his junior stint, he was on the wing, same at the World Juniors and now in Montreal...

- l3ig_l2ecl

at wing? yes. at centre? i think it's far more important to have a 4th line centre who can win draws and play responsible defence. because that line is going to get caught against a lot of top lines on the road.

especially with Therrien behind the bench.

Regarding Bourque, seems the new management is willing to give everyone a fair chance to prove themselves, hopefully he gets it and Therrien will be able to make him produce.

when the canadiens have enough depth to give eller real linemates to play with, we will see his true potential. as long as he is playing with the likes of moen, darche, blunden, geoffrion on his wings, we will not. he needs at least one linemate who can finish.

Because in a perfect world, your 4th line is playing the other teams top line for 30 seconds applying pressure deep in the other zone and playing the trap making sure nothing gets thru.
For this, winning faceoffs isn't so important because you shouldn't put your fourth line when there's a faceoff in your end. Responsible defensively shouldn't matter either as you simply go after the puck carrier to hit him.

1st line - scoring
2nd line - scoring
3rd line - shutdown
4th line - energy line

fair enough. i just think that he has the tools to be an effective checking centre and im not so convinced he'll be an offensive threat in the NHL.
