Homer better not trade too much for Ryan. No way can this team lose Coburn.
- jstross

I can't see trading any of the defensemen in the top 5 right now, in any deal, for Bobby Ryan.

Agreed, I think Gervais was acquired to potentially fill in for Gus or MAB who may be included in a trade. If Voracek is dealt, I wonder if they handle Cousins learning curve similiar to Coots? Nick has already played 3 seasons in junior, not sure what he can gain back there besides of course gaining physical strength. Unless he really plays badly in preseason, I would expect him to get a look on the big club for at least a couple of games before a decision has to be made about him returning to junior.

Anaheim is backed into a corner. No need to overpay for Ryan.

I really have no clue where you're coming from. I don't think Jake will score 40. That's an educated guess based on his skill level and talents. That doesn't mean it won't happen, but I'd certainly bet on it not happening.

- LordStanley88

40 goals well geez that's a pretty high amount of goals, which he might not hit, but neither you nor i know that. However he also brings a substantial amount of goal scoring, he'll be at least a 25+ goal a year a guy, that's not really stretching it. Furthermore just going by total goal scoring is complete disservice to the player, especially when a guy like Elias says after a playoff series that Voracek after Giroux is the Flyers best playmaker, speaks volumes. To be willing to just toss him away like he's a dirty set of underwear, is really mind boggling to me.

What do you guys know about Tim Stapleton? He's smallish RW that seemed to have a decent year last year.

No they aren't. Ultimately Ryan plays or he doesn't get paid. And he doesn't have a NTC so it's not like he can just veto a deal.

What is the motivation though?? He was coming up on UFA status. Maybe Hunter told him he had no qualms with sitting his a$$ if he didn't start to work. Any coincidence he started working his hardest in recent memory coming up on the end of a contract year?
- Just5

I think the motivation is he was being held accountable. The players in Washington did whatever they wanted until Hunter got there. He wasnt afraid to show disicpline to his players.

Semin was going to be a UFA no matter what so I'm sure that plays a part in it but Hunter got him to play at another level. Say what you want but Semin is a very good hockey player. His rep is overblown imo. The Flyers should look to add him if possible. Seems that the Flyers are on Plan W at this point and they still could use another winger with Semin's skills.

Doan-not happening
Ryan or Nash-asking price too high

When I say backed into a corner I mean Anaheim and Ryan dont get along. They can try and smooth over the situation with Ryan but ultimately why would the Flyers overpay for a player thats disgruntled with his organization?

CSSNE reporting Doan does not want to come to Boston, if he moves he wants to play in Western Conference to be near family.

Well thats that.

- hereticpride

Is this news? Da Man has been saying this all day.

I'll say it again (and again)...Ryan is the focus.

Gervais was added to play ahead of Gus and MAB. He's a solid sixth guy on a good team.

Cousins probably has an outside shot. If Voracek is traded, his spot goes to Ryan.

There are other teams that the Ducks could trade Ryan to. It's not like Nash where he can say "piss off".

I dont disagree but the Flyers dont have to overpay for him. If he gets traded elsewhere then so be it. I understand the Flyers like him a lot but the asking price is ridiculous and probably makes your current team worse.

That I agree with. They just seem like they're pushing hard to land him, regardless of cost...well, almost regardless of cost

Interesting tweets about Cousins:

Dustin Leed‏@D_LEED

...Cousins was a plus-1 on a team that allowed 272 goals in 68 games (fourth most in OHL) and finished 29-33-2-4.

Todd Cordell‏@ToddCordell

@D_LEED Even more Cousins: he was the only OHL player in the top-10 in scoring with 70 PIMs or more (he had 88.)

I look forward to seeing him in some preseason games this fall.

Personally i see this whole phantom "need to get a top line winger" problem solved. A. Give the kids a shot at it. B. Sign Semin to a 3 year deal. IF anything, he's gotta want to play in Lavy's system while maybe being 2/3's defensively responsible of what he was under Hunter. IF none of those don't work out, well in 3 years Bobby Ryan's a free agent, just dying to play for Philly.

Well, the trip to Voorhees was to see hockey, the trip to Medford was to ditch 50% of the kids for a week, the trip to Haddon Twp was to pick up some computer stuff from my cousin( the sociopath cop) and then I decided that I wanted to come home and give the wife a lil pickle tickle, so I came back to Cape May.

What's weird about that?!?!?
