How do u know what the situation is in 3 years. I would tend to agree with u if he was signed for 1 year.. maybe even 2.. he is signed for 3 years. By the end of his contract whether we are happy or not the Arena situation will be over with.. u have no idea what will happen in 3 years. He hates where he is right now b/c every time they lose a game it is his fault... He has been rumored to be traded for 2 years...He will love it here on JT's wing scoring 40 a year and smiling at the left coast.

"my scenario is if bobby ryan comes to the island dragging his feet, plays out his contract, and leaves for another team ala ryan smyth...that would be bad PR-wise"

LIKE I SAID, IF THEY GOT HIM I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY FOR THE RIGHT PRICE

It's just silly to assume in 3 years he would leave the Islanders.. Past has proven anyone who has spended any time on the Island likes it.. a lot.

That may be true but facts are facts, market value is what you are seeing today in these contracts, and he has a father in Philadelphia who's a Flyer fan with an owner who will give him his 100m dollars over 13 years front-loaded in three years.

After two years if he does not want to extend his contract trade him to Philly.

First of all here were the comments from Snow and his agent:
http://sports.espn.go.com...nhl/news/story?id=2922952

To answer your questions Smyth had nothing to do with the 2007-08 team that was in playoff contention until late in the season or the 2008-09 team. Both led the NHL in man games lost to injury. There is no rebuilding with this many injuries.

Smyth got a front-loaded contract from Colorado (slightly less money than the Isles) and it turned out he needed it because it was the only way Colorado could get rid of him, then Los Angeles. Did you read that article because every player (besides Hannan) got big front-loaded money and changed teams also.

Todd Bertuzzi still get's booed at the Coliseum, I see no connection to him crying about specifically come here.

since its hard to ever get a yes or no -- ill make it simple.

1) yes or no- was ryan smyth happy to come to come to the island?
2) good or bad - from a PR standpoint, would you say his overall attitude was good or bad for the islanders?

But players leave teams, it does not mean its going to be a PR nightmare when it happens. In that case, Nashville and New Jersey are in a bad spot..

Which they have jsut been put into. They lost their best players and received nothing back for them..How do they let this happen. The GM's are getting a pass. Uncle Lou figured he would be able to get it done with Zach and Suter told Polie that he was coming back until yesterday..holly crap.

Teams deserve to get something back when they lose a player like these guys..If Suter told Nashville all along he would be back, there should be something that can be done in the next CBA about this. It is now a MAJOR lose to these 2 teams.. You can wait for years to get players of that talent...

You guys are talking about Smyth leaving, he was not even in the same league. Imagine if one of these guys left this team. Instant villan

SMyth came to the Islanders for 2 bums.. .let's not forget that point. The reason larry Brooks and every other NY media .. anti - islander jackweed said it was a bad trade is b/c we gave up 2 awesome prospects for him. Neither ammounted to a dang thing. This was a great trade... period.
- niteislander

dude, if youre going to jump into the middle of the convo, at least read it all....im talking from an isles PR perspective- getting a big name and his feeling of the team/organization IE referring more FA to come to the island....i for one, dont think he worked out well PR-wise

from a talent (fantasy hockey) stance, i was initially very happy with the deal; not so happy when he jumped ship....having the 3 players turn out to be nothing is hindsight and doesnt come into play...its just the cherry on top

Let's not forget how Brooks claimed Smyth would give serious consideration to waiving his NTC to play for Larry Brooks favorite team this year.

http://www.nypost.com/p/s...ar_tnrcx77ovFAzjNpT4SMVIL

What did Smyth respond with?
Who's Larry Brooks.

Now that's embarrassing.

What was it Parise said about signing with the Rangers?
That's embarrassing.

- NYI

again, keeping it simple...who is considered the laughingstock of the nhl? islanders or rangers?

I think a bigger reason for the bad pr was that all those guys jumped ship at the same time. Losing Blake and Poti along with him made people assume that something was wrong here.

True but what he doesn't have is an NTC.. so he goes wherever trade him. It is not a Nash situation. NY is a lot close to Philly then Cali.. and in 3 years u never know what Wang or whoever owns the islanders will be willing to give him to stay.

I get it now....

even IF it is a PR nightmare in 3 years.. .I still think the Isles need to make the trade for the sake of the PR today. They desperately need something to make this fan base excited.

You don't... No one hates HIM.. they hate the unrealized potential.. they hate the fact you may be able to consider him "injury prone".. they hate the contract.. etc... but no one shares your unnatural, obsessive hatred for the man.
