smyth coming to the islanders was an embarrassment - everyone knew he was gone the second he came to the island and it was NOT a positive acquisition from a PR standpoint.
- LetsGoIsles

How is trading for Smyth to an Islander team in sixth place at the time making a run at a cup not positive from a pr standpoint? At worst it was a rental which is how it turned out same as Richard Zednik. It was a lot worse for Smyth when he dumped Colorado and then the cup winning Kings.

my scenario is if bobby ryan comes to the island dragging his feet, plays out his contract, and leaves for another team ala ryan smyth...that would be bad PR-wise

- LetsGoIsles

And what player in the last twenty years or so has gone to any team in a trade and acted in such a manner? Nabokov came here with every reason to drag his feet and loved it so much he resigned.

the players you gave as examples were more than happy originally playing with the devils/pens.

- LetsGoIsles

Jordan Staal was not a free agent, he had a contract and forced a trade to be with his brother in Carolina and humiliated the Pens forcing them to announce it at their own draft party, that does not sound like happy to me.

i didnt think i had to repeat it for the 3rd time but AGAIN, for the right price, id be do the deal....

im just saying....i sure as poop hopes he likes it here, otherwise its another PR nightmare and certainly not going to help give the isles credibility when it comes to signing FA in future years standpoint (which was the original comment i responded to)

- LetsGoIsles

Dude I was not being an idiot it was a serious question. I mean I am not sold on the kids right now and we have to agree to fill PA shoes they have to look outside the organization. MAybe Ryan is the answer maybe he is not I dont know. I am not giving up the farm for him but he would be an upgrade over half our forwards

why not? crazier things have happened....like handing out a 15 year contract to a goalie; a 12 year deal to a guy who is one concussion away from eating out of a straw; 2 separate 12 year deals for 2 guys that make a team 5 quality players away from being legit....its possible canucks and panthers missed out on grabner....

cant the same be said about parenteau and moulson?

- LetsGoIsles

You hit it right on in regards to this !! hope for good health for all these players but lets not forget we are talking hockey here, not a game of snooker or darts!

We can argue back in forth if Snow whould have overpaid to get some legit talent. If Snow should make a trade, but the bottom line this will be our team next year. We need to accept it and hope that guys like Bailey, KO and Nino (yes Nino he will play next year) step up next year.

nah, i know you werent being a jerk...i agree, the points need to be replaced, bobby ryan would be great!! a player (or 2) on the current roster certainly has it in them- being that the skilled guys IE KO, JB, MG- arent even 25- but it would be risky banking on that....

having said that from a literal/mathematical standpoint, if bobby ryan was better than just half the team hed be on the 3rd line and we wouldnt need him. he is more valuable than 92.50% of our forwards

Completely disagree, he praised the Isles upon leaving and called another player to tell him to sign here. He made clear at the time a lot of this was about playing in the Western Conference.

PR seemed to play out fine:
