I dont see where the Flyers are void in talent. If they make minor moves, this team will still be a top team in the East - bigmookalookie

devils lost captain and pens lost staal/sullivan/michalek

Lilja's the 6/7th defenseman splitting time with Gervais in all likelyhood.
Could well mean a trade is happening, too - Jsaquella
Though Gus played very well last year when he was put into the lineup & should still be considered in the mix, they moved him in & out so many times, and he played well despite that. |

Yup!
Losing Staal, I think will hurt them, especially if Syd goes out for any time |

Basically, 2/3rds of the existing contract, spread over double the term bought out.
However, as an over 35 deal, Lilja's savings on a buyout would be minimal. Zero reason to buy him out. - Jsaquella
A buyout of a player on a 35+ deal saves the team salary, but but does not reduce the player's cap hit.

The Pens will be a much worse team if they can't even land Doan |

No Sutter is no bum, but he isn't close to Staal, Staal is a beast who was trapped behind 2 stars, he can play in any capacity.
The Pens did well under the circumstances, but losing him will hurt, they are a weaker team then last season because of it |

$196 million committed to two players.
$196 million. Think about that for a second.
It's mind boggling. |

Not every addition can be a 1st line superstar player. You have to have 4th liners and third pair defensemen, too. - Jsaquella
Agreed. Not sure what the plan is at the moment. The pieces aren't fitting right now. There is still plenty of time left. I wouldn't trade for Ryan or Nash, too expensive in terms of assets, I would make a big run at Doan 3yrs 15 million, if that isn't enough to get a deal made with him, then I don't know where to turn.
I'm glad Jagr wasn't brought back, so I'm cool with that, also liked the Bob trade. Wasn't thrilled with the JVR trade but I'm keeping an open mind. So it's on record I'm not hating on everything being done thus far. |

Are you drunk? Sunstruck? You're supposed to whine and complain that the sky is falling because the Flyers didn't pay 50% more for Jagr than they wanted to or succeed in signing a guy people here weren't sure was worth 7 a year in his prime for an average of more than $7.5 a year for the next 13 years.
And for others, there is a significant difference between Suter and any currently active Sutter. |

I think Minnesota had to do it. They needed something to jump start their franchise. They are just about the most boring team in the NHL prior to today. At least these moves gives them some buzz. Parise out of the Division is a good thing. |

I agree. I think it's generally a good thing in all sports when the big market teams don't scoop up all the elite talent. It's the general idea of why there is a salary cap. Parity is supposed to rule the day. |
