there are going to be more suitors for him now then there were for Parise,
chances are slim even if he does leave Phoenix - Marc D
Don't forget we have Bryz. He scares all the FAs away |

Matt Carle 5 yrs, 27.5 M
5.5 cap hit
Would you do it?
yeah or nay? - Marc D
Yeah. That's the most I'd do with the current cap situation, though |

If Jake improves his finishing he's gonna be a helluva a player I'd try to hold onto him. - JoeRussomanno
I'd love to see him signed to a long term deal
hmm then they would just trade him, nevermind |

Thankfully, that soap opera is finally over. Now let's get down to some real business.
Homer should get Carle on the horn immediately..."Matt, I've got a five year, 26 mil contract on my desk. Give me your answer before I finish my burger or it's in the can".

Hartnell... - JoeRussomanno
sorry ... I don't see the same toughness in Hartnell as I do in Simmonds.
not that Harts doesn't try of course. And he definitely is a valuable guy. |

he's never going to score more than 20-25 goals probably, but if he got the ice and played with a decent scorer with any consistency at 5v5, he'd flirt with 50 assists just if you project his current numbers over more ice time. |

Expect the Flyers to make a very serious run at Shane Doan next week if he decides to leave Phoenix. I am told he is their immediate target. |

I think he would take that and stay
just my guess
I don't see Detroit offering him much more, they are pretty smart with their contracts, St Louis too for that matter
I don't think Carle is going to get a 60M 10 yr offer anywhere

a 22 year old that scored just under 50 points while being shuffled between lines... not too shabby. But hey wee need a dozen more goals so let's package him up in a deal with a Dman (which we kinda need) and some draft picks for Nash or Ryan makes total sense! Logging onto NHL12 now who wants to play!? |

This is true. He might get a 6 year $30 million contract the way this free agent season has been going, and that would be a little absurd.
I have no doubt Homer is exploring all options. |

Sorry but Simmonds has a way to go before he gets to Hartnell's level. I think you're under appreciating what he does out there. |

Poile says he has already talked to Shea Weber's people about a long-term contract... going to turn his attention to that now - Pat MaGroin
He doesn't have a hope in hell of keeping Weber now. He best find a place to trade him to before he loses him for nothing too. |

It's possible. I'd tell Carle that it's a quick negotiation or nothing. They waited 4 days on the resolution of Parise/Suter, now they have to address depth needs and veterans for the 4th line. |

The Preds still have a ton of cap room. They could add pieces and keep Weber happy with a fat contract |

jake is by far the better puck possession player. isn't that a better fit for lavy system? - OrangeBlack27
not so sure I would say that Jake is by far better at puck possession than Simmonds.
Simmonds was absolutely fantastic at controlling the puck along the boards for most of the season. Only in the playoffs did that part of his game suffer a letdown. |

I am sure one of the stipulations Parise had was that Koivu remained with the team. Last thing Parise wants is for them to trade away his centerman. |

keeping Jake is their best move
the only doubts I have is they may be struggling with his agent as to what he is worth long term
the flyers hold all the cards though as he is rfa
the only way I would deal him is if they really believe they can't get a long term deal done at some point and have to maximize his value through a trade
still I want to keep him, I love his attitude and size and skill set, and they are really short on top wingers right now |
