Can someone please tell me how this team is better than last year? Please don't say Doan, for Doan does not equal Staal. The only thing that could salvage this off-season would be a Bobby Ryan trade, and I'm not seeing it.
Shero... - brianb0422
At this point DOAN would be awessome if you know what I mean.

I don't see Doan coming here and I'd worry about giving a guy his age the money he's likely going to demand. He certainly has some qualities this team needs, still unlikely in my opinion. |

It is what we needed all all along as I have said, Big strong foward, not Parise. He has heart but not size. Is there any shut down D available? |

i dont really fault shero for this. the only signing so far that i would have wanted for the pens for the money that was given was bryan allen. its hard to fault him for not handing boatloads of money for guys that just arent there. as far as my oshie comment, i would like him, but not at the expense of giving up morrow or despres. if thats what it costs, then id need to pass. if theyd be buyers at harrington, martin, and a first im all for it.
overall, as it stands now, the team is not as good as it was. however, before i get all upset about that i think 2 things need to be understood.
1. there really wasnt a whole lot shero could have done to prevent the losses that happened, nor was there many options available to improve the team. overall, shero did the best with what was there.
2. the team honestly doesnt necessarily need drastic outside help. they lost because the guys already there did not play up to par. |

I'd be happy getting Doan, Morrow, Stewart.....

It might not be better but it is different. The previous team wasn't have much success following the regular season.
It feels similar to the change that the Flyers made when they shipped off Carter and Richards, I don't think anyone would have claimed that they were better, just different and it worked out fine.

I'm not quite sure where all of this anxiety is coming from. Not landing Parise is a disappointment. We have not significantly improved the team this off season, and, yes, Jordan Staal straight up for Sutter is a subtraction. However, none of the other teams in the Atlantic have improved themselves in any significant way either. With a few minor roster tweaks, this team is basically the same team that was tearing a swath through the NHL in December 2010. Check that, this team is BETTER than that team. In 2010, Geno wasn't playing at nearly the level he's at now, and we didn't have James Neal. If we have a little faith that Sid can remain healthy then this team will continue to be a Stanley Cup favorite for years and years.
End pep talk... |

Pens will be fine... they got a great group and the top 2 players in the world.
Parise was a nice luxury, but I would not overlook Neal... I love what he brings to Pittsburgh. Suter not coming to Det hurts, but Holland has money and cap space so im sure he will try to add depth vs star power to fill gaps.
Honestly,
I don't know how that d core in Minney is going to fair. They will score more for sure, but stoppin' em aint so sure yet. - BooBoo997
Minnesota will figure out quickly that Suter wasn't the key to the top pairing in Nashville. That defense sucks.
Even with Parise, that offense sucks. It was by far the worst without him last year.

Lol... I can judge from what I see. So far we have Sutter for Staal. We lose. Not jumping off the bridge or anything, but there is nothing to be happy about with this situation. Nothing at all. - brianb0422
I see Vokoun for Johnson. Major improvement. Seems like you are jumping off the bridge. Would you have wanted Shero to go 14 years, 105 million for both Parise and Suter? 13 years is utterly ridiculous for either.

At what point do d-men stop being overpaid and start being at their market value? So far every major UFA defenseman, it seems, has been overpaid. |

I don't know if that's a comparable situation. Flyers brought in multiple NHL ready guys. We basically swapped Z and Staal for Sutter and prospects.
However, no way Shero is done and nobody can blame him at this point. He HAD to deal Staal and he made a very respectable bid for the best player available in FA. Can't help there are some very desperate teams out there. |

Looking like Martin is a keeper as well
I guess Philly traded for L.Schenn already...and are about to sign Gervais. |

Unbelievable the overpayment for some of these guys. Not particularly impressed with Carle, certainly not at $5.5 million. |

Timonen, Coburn, Meszaros, Grossman, Lilja, Schenn is not much better than what we have, if it is. Gervais is about the same as Lilja - worthless. |

You knew he was going to get over 5 million per with the way money is flying around and him being the second best Dman available after Suter.

My god people calm down... From website to talk radio the city is in a freaking panic! Why? This team without any additions will compete to be the best team in the East. The truth is if Fleury is on his game will go far in the playoffs. END OF STORY!!!
I say no trades and get Doan.
Dupuis- Crosby- Doan
Neal- Malkin- Kunitz
Kennedy- Sutter - Cooke
Glass- Vitale- Adams
Jeffrey- Tangradi
Orpik- Letang
Martin-Niskanen
Engellend- Despres
Bortuzzo or Strait
This team looks pretty damn good to me and if Tangradi or Jeffrey find their game it's real good. Despres is going to be a Top 4 maybe this season. Most teams would kill for this roster. Now get down off the bridges people!!! |
