Collins is an underrated drummer, I saw him playing drums with Clapton and Friends at a concert in I want to say 87, I was young I don't remember the exact year. But Collins was on drums, also had bassist Nathan East, as well as Mark Knopfler. Spectacular show.

I pattered my drumming after Collins in my teens. People really know him for vocals.

ABWH
Phil Collins: But Seriously
Eric Clapton: Journeyman
Rush: Presto

That's just off the top of my (tired) head.

EDIT: I saw Collins, Clapton, and Robert Plant that year (actually 1990 by the time they came to Philly). Plant's album had come out in 1988 (Now and Zen). Manic Nirvana was 1990.

i saw ABWH that summer. in fact, it was the first real concert i ever attended.
presto was great. saw that twice. saw the manic nirvana show as well.

1988 was also great with, living colour's vivid, and two of my favorite female artists ever, edie brickell with "shooting rubber bands at the stars", and melissa ethridge's debut self-titled album.

good times.[/img]

Yes. Also listen to him on The Lamb.... Unreal. Most folks know him as that Sussudio guy.

"In the Cage" is my favorite Genesis song. "Blood on the Rooftops" is a close second.

Now, for me, the Doors are a band I never got into, but never turned off when their songs came on, either. I realize that my taste is just different.

Heck, I didn't like Pink Floyd at all until about 10 years ago or so when they all of a sudden clicked. Must've been the air from the Eagle Point Plant that Coastal Fuel used to operate near my last house.

My Parents saw the Doors about 35 times, and my Dad tells me half the shows were great, the other half awful. Just didn't know what you were going to get day to day with Morrison. He was just so far off the reservation. Genius one day, mental patient the next.

Zeppelin best band of all time imo.. Cream was only together two years they dont have the longevity, some will argue Stones, Beatles, nothing is as good as Zep.

The Principle of Moments very underrated solo album from Plant. Great stuff.

Absolutely. A lot of people don't know he even played drums. The people who know Collins from Sussidio, and Easy Lover and that type stuff are missing the boat.

My best friend in high school was a drummer. Neil Peart (Rush for those here that don't know) and Phil Collins were his favorites, with Chester Thompson (Genesis' live drummer and Weather Report's drummer) as a close third. He got me into Rush and Brand X.

billy cobham is another. i'm sure you know that. mahavishnu.

Zeppelin is up there. U2 is my favorite band nowadays. A friend played "War" on his mom's car stereo one day after church and... that was that. Rush is second on my list nowadays. #3 is always up for grabs.

amazing transition from drummer to frontman while still keeping most of his chops at the kit. blew out his hands pretty bad recently.

i happened to stumble across a video on youtube last week of morrison's dad and sister. seemed fairly recent. amazing that his dad never listened to the music. even years later, the guy was clueless.

I have to check that stuff out. The Genesis stuff with Peter Gabriel and Collins is right in my wheelhouse. Gabriel is playing in Sept in Philly, I'm thinking about getting tickets.

Funny thing was, as I started collecting the LP's (I had a cassette player, too, but the LP inserts and packaging rocked compared to the tapes' inserts), I have different times of year for Genesis' albums. Duke I first listened to on a summer vacation whereas "And Then There Were Three" is a winter album to me. I can listen to any at any time of year, but those two are "locked in" seasonally.

Didn't know that. I will check that out. I'm sure you have seen it, the Jimmy Page on some British show from the 50's is on Youtube. They were playing some dreadful music. Have you seen this?

the early stuff w/ Gabriel was great too...Collins was a big cobham fan and that showed up in some of his playing.

I borrowed a pair of bootleg tapes from the Gabriel benefit concert from a guy at college. He found out I was going to ask this girl out and he beat me to the punch. I conveniently forgot to return the tapes to him. I think I got the better deal. She's probably a Devils or Rangers fan now.

U2 very good band. A lot of people don't realize they have been together over 30 years now.
