95% of the time it sure is.

But in this case money is roughly equal and obscene. If it were only the money, the decisions would be made already.

I'm not really sure what that means. Pitt has two players on their roster making $8.7 mill a year already plus Neal and Fluery's contracts. Detroit has three players signed through 2019 and beyond. Those teams have more big long term money committed to players than we do.
- Flyers2821

I applaud your excitement, but let's face it. Flyers are not signing either of them so what is the point of discussing. Not 1 single person that has any bit of knowledge with either situation thinks the Flyers have a legit chance.

Or they're just trying to get even more money

Depends what we offered. The rumor was that their original offer was 13 years $80 mill and they upped that to 13 years $90 mill today. Then met with Suter today.

They are really making a push for him and I think they are going to get him.

think we are going to end up making a trade when we lose out on the two big fish...

So everyone but the Flyers know they aren't getting either player? I'm not buying it. If the Flyers have the highest offers, why wouldn't they have a good chance at landing at least one of them?

The free agency parade is going by, I'm sure Holmgren and Company think they have a legit chance at signing one of them. Unless they have completely miscalculated.

Well Leighton is an AHL All-Star, so he's got that on lock down.

So it was rumoured that they met with him, but he hasn't even responded to our offer at all? Not good. I'd really like to sign Suter, pull the offer to Parise and then fill the other gaps whatever way we can.

I think that both players are waiting for the money to get right where they want to play.

Yet they all say the Flyers offered the biggest contracts. Which in the real world puts them 100% right there in the running.

And I am not optimistic about signing them, my point is that people are so against the signings when they would both be great moves for the long term success of this franchise.

I don't know about that. I haven't read any of the reliable sources such as Dreger, or McKenzie say the Flyers are out of it.

Great moves as far as adding a quality player. Not so sure from the financial aspect of it.

That is true, but I haven't seen anything from either of those guys that says the Flyers have even a chance. In fact most people have reported the Flyers have extremely small chances at either of them.

That said, how many times is it the team you don't hear about that lands the big time player. Who knows? But my gut says the Flyers are out and the team itself may not feel confident but has waited this long, why pull out now as you never know what will happen?

I think acquiring one of the two players would be fine financially. Acquiring both would put them in quite a bind in about 2 years when G, Couturier, Schenn need raises. Acquiring one, they still have plenty of long term flexibility with their roster.

Well the Flyers aren't dummies. They know what's going on. I keep hearing how the Flyers are missing out on all these other players, as they wait to see what happens. Your not missing out on what you don't want.

And how do you know that? How do you know the Flyers aren't out right now and they know they are out and are quietly working the phones on the trade. As you hypocritcally say all the people on here saying the Flyers are out, are wrong, you are doing the exact same thing saying they are in. BTW, Bobby Mac and Dreger haven't tied the Flyers to either player since July 1st, so who knows if they are in or out.

Who has reported that?

When you are the team that offered the most amount of money... there is NO WAY you have an extremely small chance of acquiring the player.

The only people I have seen say something like that are the local Flyers reporters... and with all do respect, they know just as much as us sitting here at our computers when it comes to these players and where they are going to sign.

It is the national guys like Dreger who have the connections throughout the entire NHL that have the best understanding (if they even do). And none of those guys have said anything remotely close to "Flyers have an extremely small chance"

Sure there has been. When they report that the Flyers have the biggest offer, they have a chance. And I haven't seen any reliable source saying the Flyers have an extremely small chance. Most reports I've see said the Flyers are in the hunt.

They have both confirmed every time they are on television that the Flyers have the best financial offers on the table. That to me is linking them to the teams.
