i have no interest in Suter. Parise I would take. I want Ryan, but not with the assets we have left. I would have traded JVR there, and maybe Homer tried that. Right now, we just need to sign a UFA forward, maybe another dman and call it good.
- wilsonecho91

Why exactly would you not want Suter? Everyone keeps saying this team needs defense... Suter is one of the top d-men in the league and one of the best puck moving d-men (which is a major need for us)...

Suter would be a tremendous signing in my opinion. I just don't see it likely as he seems to want to stay out West and out of the spotlight of media. If we could get him I would be extremely happy.

Not crazy at all. Very rarely does that Franchise swing and miss.

you can afford Suter and Voracek this year and still afford Weber next year with Hartnell and Timo coming off the books.

Weber/Coburn
Suter/Grossman
Meszaros/Schenn

That would be sick.

- jstross

I'd probably keep Weber and Suter together; if that situation magically happens.

Yes. Will still have to re-sign Benn and their other RFAs to get above floor, though.
- bmeltzer

It's funny but one of the first things I wondered when I saw the signing was whether or note Dallas needed to get to the floor. I would like to have gotten Jagr back, but not at 4.5 mil. We can spend that better at another place.

Best of luck to him though.. I really enjoyed his time here and am a fan for sure.

The only thing I will say is that with JVR and Jags gone, if we miss out on Parise, Ryan, etc etc.. I worry we can't just make up for the O with who we have. We need to get someone on wing. If Homer completely wiffs on Suter and Parise, which I kind of expect now that it's taking this long, he may have to overpay on a trade to get a winger.. other teams will know he's desperate.

i think he is a great player, but not a player that i would pay what is rumoured to be have been offered and for the length of the contract. even if he is the shiniest of this bunch, i would pass. if we get him, will i be upset? no, i'll be stoked to have a great player but at the same time disappointed at the price tag and length of contract.

The flyers are cooking up something big. It is eerily quiet. I'm really thInking weber is going to be in the picture after suter leaves

Hmmm... Not off the top of my head. Every team makes mistakes with the benefit of hindsight.

Holmgren getting Leino from Detroit for nothing was a tremendous move for the Flyers, Ville played great in Philly. Flyers made the wise decision not paying him an outrageous contract and the Sabres are regretting that deal every day I'm sure.

Two top 6's + D man+ 1 round picks

No way do we do that when we can potentially sign him next year.

What's his recourse if Flyers say, nope. Does he just sit out forever?
- jstross

I'd be delighted to have Voracek signed to a multi year @ 4M per.

That would be horrible. He would be making more than Giroux for the next two seasons. I would trade him in a heartbeat. $4 mill.. gimme a break.

Makes tons of sense to me, but can't you see Holmgren doing something desperate after losing out on the top two prizes? Patience isn't exactly one of Snider's virtues. The guy wants to win another Cup more than anything before he leaves this Earth.
- PLindbergh31

the FA class is pretty thin and that's part of why i think some guys are getting silly money. GMs have never been good at being thrifty. They're like drunken sailors on leave at whore island.

so what else can he do? doan and ryan are still out there. i've always liked doan, and i believe he'd be a nice fit here, assuming the contract is reasonable. and i like ryan. feel good story there, and he'd replace jvr's sporadic production. i just don't think they have a ton of pieces to give up for ryan. doan is a FA so that's just fitting him in.

as for the D, i'd like them to keep Carle but not at 6m. roll with what they've got and give the kids some ice time.

Carle at 6 million is a disaster. No way around it. Let someone else give it to him.
- PLindbergh31

It's overpaying for the player, and I don't want to pay Carle 6M. But it's not a disaster.

When have the Flyers EVER "rolled with what they got?"

There is ZERO chance of that happening lol

I like Doan too. I would give him 3 yrs at 4 million per season. Is that enough to get it done? With the way these contracts are being handed out probably not.

I agree with the defense, let Carle go and take a big run at Weber. I don't want to give Carle anything over 5 million let alone 6.

For all the people so against these offers to Parise and Suter... does it mean nothing that two of the best most well respecting franchises in the league are making the same pushes for these players as the Flyers are? Pitt/Det?

parise would be great, sure, but at what price? and who do we have to move to accomodate him. somebody, right? i don't want giving up the young glue guys like simmonds, voracek, read, etc either for a single player, ie, ryan. i hate those multiplayer for 1 player deals.

i'd like doan. what dman do you want? who's out there?

LOL at Worley getting his brains bashed in by the Mets.

This team is going through the motions. Embarrassing themselves and the City they play in.

People keep using the phrase "ripping apart the team" or "tearing the team apart" when referring to the offers to Parise and Suter...

I mean the way I look at it... if they land one of Parise or Suter, they are getting a tremendous player without having to give up any assets. How is that tearing the team apart?

Not following this logic... please elaborate?

- Flyers2821

do they not have to move out some guys to accommodate a big salary, or do they really have enough room and can keep everyone else? i fully admit i'm not clear on their cap situation.

Doan said he won't sign until 7-8 i think, so if they don't get anywhere before then, he becomes an option, but i doubt they are making him a priority. who knows though.

Good point. If the Flyers land Parise it gives Giroux a fantastic player to play with. I would be excited. Hard to be upset about that.

Right now there isn't a great candidate to play on the Giroux line. Voracek isn't a finisher yet, and Schenn still has lots of room to improve. He's not ready for the pressure of playing on the first line imo.

They can currently fit one of those deals under the cap without needing to move salary. If both deals were accepted and signed, they would need to clear cap space.

Well they are running out of options. Trading for Ryan opens up more holes from the players who will be going to Anaheim. Not sure that is the way to go.
