Arpon Basu @ArponBasu Marc Bergevin on Scott Gomez: "He's a Montreal Canadien, so he'll come here and we'll see what happens. But I'm not buying him out."

unbelievable!

- billyberg10

but he can bury him in Hamilton Buyout makes no sense unless the next CBA has a no cap hit window.

Beautiful!! Music to my ears. Two more years of the worst contract in the league.

In 2014-2015 when he's a UFA, how much you think he gets, a 1 year for 2 million?

- Juice

seriously...he is not worth a contract. he can't play top 6 and he is useless in a bottom 6 role

He's absolutely bang on with everything.

When Burke got here, his exact words were "July 1st will be our draft" and now suddenly it's the biggest mistake day of the year along with trade deadline....so there's those two main days GONE.

And it's always good to know that Fletcher is working in the background with his "draft, shmaft" attitude.

The best line Berger wrote was:
Burke’s “I-have-no-patience-for-a-five-year-plan” has very likely put the Leafs in a ten-year plan.

He was dead on with that.

Nobody doubts that while Burke has been trying to fast track this rebuild he has added very decent prospects that the franchise hasn't had in decades...but they're mostly 7-8 out of 10 type prospects with absolutely no 9 or 10 out of 10 A level guys.

He's Franked up big time and he knows it. Problem is he will never admit it. The Beauchemin trade is likely the only thing that's saved his job to this point...without that deal the Leafs would have finished dead last last season.

That's what's so brutal about it. When Burke came in the attitude was one of Leafs fans being totally ready for a complete tear down and rebuild over years with high draft picks. Burke said he wasn't doing it. Now we're still without playoff hockey and no closer because he didn't add that top end talent that he could have from the draft. He shot himself in the foot and I don't know how (or if) we are going to recover from it short of tearing it down and doing a full rebuild through the draft like he should have done from Day 1.

Uncle Lou will find a spot for him.

Either that or the Islanders will.

I wouldn't put money on that happening on purpose. If this team blows up, it'll be like previous years where he tried to improve but miscalculated. If that happens again, it'll be the next GM who gets to decide which path they take at the fork in the road.

There is currenlty no space for him in the line up unless he outplays someone for a job.

1. Find world champion chess player

2. Teach him hockey

We would always be 5 years ahead.

He has only himself to blame. I am sure he is praying for a buyout window in the new CBA, no way he wants to be humiliated and sent to Hamilton

He has 5.5M and 4.5M left on his deal to pay, it would be a Redden situation all over again.

He has been given every opportunity to turn it around and at least do something, anything, only he is either too stupid or useless to even be decent defensively and is a (frank)ing turnover machine, he didnt care while the former administration was in charge, because when it all comes down to it, it was solely their (frank)ing fault for acquiring him. The new GM owes him nothing, absolutely nothing, and he will start in Montreal IMO and when he does nothing, like he has done all along, he will get his personal choice of Hamilton or Europe, he can decide...

It's amazing how far Burke has fallen from the pedestal he was placed upon when he arrived. I'm sure it won't happen again in the future.

I do not believe the players lose this round of the CBA, be lucky if the amnesty clause will even be available, i believe they should bury him now. Just in case. Better to do it now while there is a way out. Otherwise you are stuck with him.

Players lose nothing with an amesty clause if the buyout is for 100% of the salary...that's the only way they accept this clause IMO

If it's a one-time thing, I doubt the NHLPA would put up much of a fight for that. That's pretty much 30 players who could potentially be bought out and chances are only a handful of teams would exercise the option so realistically, five to ten players in the entire league.

The medium and small markets however would put up a fight because they would see it as an advantage given to big markets to buy their mistakes away because they have more money to play with.

The bought out players get to sign another deal for less money therefor increasing their revenue. I agree about the small market having less money to do so.

However if they are able to sign a new contract with the said small market teams and for much less then they did originally, this could actually work out on their behalf.
