Trade for a freaking 1st line center and a goalie
- .HOHO.

You're right: why didn't Burke think of that? Maybe he doesn't know the controller button combinations to pull off a one-sided blockbuster on his Xbox.

I would LOVE to sign Peter Mueller to a 1 year deal. Kid has size, speed, top end skill, was a former 8th overall pick; there's the risk -- concussion history, some talk of him whining about ice-time or something -- but that to me is a worthwhile use of free agency more so than overpaying for plugs.

x2. if he works out lightning in a bottle, if not 1 year and out (or minors).

I agree! He's a beaut. If he would take a chance on Connolly ...I don't see why he can't do the same with Mueller. Young guy too. Would be happy if we could sign him, surprised he isn't gone already. (I better not jynx it)

Plenty of possiblities
Stats, Ryan, Luongo(Who else could they be talking about in VAN, Kesler?)

I don't know if there are too many UFAs out there I'd want. Doan would be best. Meuller's worth a look, but I'd rather give the spot to a youngster over Petr.

And yea, Nash too much trouble

Doan, Nash, Parise, Ryan are all wingers and that means Lupul and/or Kessel have to go the other way. Not seeing that happen.

I'm all for team toughness, I just don't think overpaying for 4th line plugs is the answer. McClement's not a push over either: he'll fight when he has too, and he's not exactly tiny either. Same with guys like Frattin; he's a big boy, so is Ashton: kid was hitting everything in sight and wasn't afraid of anyone, so just because we don't have that intimidating Parros guy, we still have some size in our bottom 6.

And what everyone's seemingly forgetting is that even if we wanted to add some sandpaper through FA, we can't take on anymore bodies until we move out Lombardi or Connolly.

- gravyface

i never wanted parros but haveing someone to fight the kids battles isn't a terrible idea and the only heavy wieghts getting a regular shift are on boston and maybe parros. i just rather not see kid getting beat up by the late 20 somethings that are overpaid on the 4 line. just another brown would be nice. someone that can fight and play preferably with speed.

There are these things called "trades" that occur from time to time.

Yeah I'll admit, now that we've acquired JVR it's really centre and goalie that look most proable.

Along with the fact that we already have Lombo and Connolly who need to be moved in a deal to acquire a centre.

I dunno fellas, I just don't see anything happening. Looks like BB really cooled off to Luongo and aside from Stats at centre, it's hard to imagine what BB can do

So I guess this means we can start wondering what would need to be paid in order to acquire Paul's services.

1st line centers, ya
those are easy to find

#1 goalies too

- wingz4life

Should it honestly take 4 years though? Leaf fans have been listening to BB tell us how he's looking to add a top six centre going on 4 years.

That talk will likely materialize soon enough if the Leafs are still sucking as Kessel approaches UFA. If they're bottom of the conference around even next seasons trade deadline, Burke should consider cutting his losses and get as much as he can for Kessel (which could be huge).

This assuming they're getting the feeling he would test free agency and if they're still limping along, why wouldn't he??

Where? I just don't see a lot of extra #1 centers around. Pittsburgh was like the only team who had an (potential) #1 center stewing on the 3rd line. Maybe COL, but I think they wait and see and let O'Reilly and Duchesne develop further before letting Stastny go. Cap's certainly not an issue, neither is payroll there; they have more of an issue getting to the cap floor.

Other than that, do you see centers available for trade? I don't, and that's why Burke's saying that the center solution may come from within (Colborne). I'm fine with that: we surprise everyone and squeak in to the playoffs? Great. Tank, draft high again? Cool too. It's the rebuild everybody wanted... except now that it's here, everyone wants to go back to overpaying for mediocrity and 9th place finishes.
