I gotta ask.. is Corsby's contract now offically the worst contract in hockey???
Atleast Wang gave DP his BEFORE the injuries.
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
crosby had already proved his worth. look what he's accomplished. stanley cup, gold medal, I think he's got a scoring title as well. Crsoby is gonna be making the same amount of cash he did from his previous contract, and there is an insurance clause. dipietro didn't prove validation of his contract. |

Nino Niederreiter is developing more of an edge to his game than I'd like. I'd prefer him to be more of a finese player than someone who is overly physical.

I'm no fan of Burnside. Regarding the Isles they need to be a consistent winner. Especially in NY you better win if you want any sort of attention. There is too much to do in NY and if you have a lousy team good luck in getting any attention from ESPN or anyone else. - ses111
Burnside is the biggest joke of all, Espn lost it's way when they lost Al Morganti on coverage but they got cheap.
The laughingstock Knicks and losing baseball get's even more coverage being a circus along with New Jersey football.
There is too much to do in New York and New Jersey for hockey win or lose.
The consistent winner Devils did not get attention, the Rangers got zero back-pages all season in first place and were bumped for rumors of the Yankees being sold in the semi-finals when they lost game five at home. |

Basketball will always beat hockey and Baseball beats both. While the Knicks are not a model francise they play in the Garden so they will always have enough support and attention not to mention they always try to win and spend money to bring in top talent. The Devils win but the Fan support has not always been there and Uncle Lou likes the low profile. The Rangers get enough attention in terms of hockey coverage and it helps them being one of the original six. If Wang demands results and does not accept losing and starts to run his team like a pro team the Isles will get more attention. It will never approach Knicks and Ranger attention though. Wang needs to focus only on getting the Isles a new builidng and let a real hockey person run the show. If Wang does that he may find it easier to get that building. |

If the garden had so much support why are they getting eleven million dollars in tax exemptions every year to keep from moving since they threatened to leave in 1981, why did the taxpayer foot the bill for the 200m renovation in 1990 and paying for the electricity the place uses?
The Knicks have had long stretches in front of thousands of empty seats, same as the Rangers who are not even Msg's first hockey team. Boston, Chicago, Detroit played to thousands of empty seats so that original six is worthless.
http://www.nydailynews.co...-figures-article-1.332744
The Devils finished first a few years ago, paid Kovalchuk and had playoff home games in front of tons of Flyer and Ranger fans.
Wang runs his franchise like a pro team, he cannot do a thing about the media attention Cablevision gives them on television and in Newsday which is also owned by Cablevision. he hired a real gm who's found some good NHL hockey players his counterparts did not find.
Devils made the finals and Msg owned Cablevision would not even give them a postgame on the road in the opening rounds.
If you think Wang having a winning team get's him a new building you do not live in Nassau County. John Pickett won four cups and Nassau would not give him the time of day. |

NYI no one said life is fair. The Knicks and Rangers will always be seen as the big boys whether they get results or not. MSG is a corporate building empty seats or not they do fine. Having a better team may not get Wang a new building in LI it may help him get a better deal in Brooklyn or elsewhere. At least it will make it harder for LI to say no and Murray would not be able to make her smart little comments. I'm not sure how hard Pickett pushed for a new building because after the Cups he seemed to lose interest big time. The economy was good back then you would think the Isles could have gotten a new building. I have no idea what went on. The Devils were always in a tough spot with the Philly fans next door as well as the Rangers and when the Isles were good. I have a ton of respect for what the Devils have been able to do but it never made sense to me for having the Rockies move to NJ. Trust me I rather talk about what great player the Isles will be getting instead of this building mess and all the other problems the Isles have. This is the situation right now. |

Not sure what your point is...hockey's the 4th Sport...in New York as well as the rest of the USA. No surprise. Nobody was going to Bruins' games until they became contenders, and Boston's always praised for being a crazy sports town. Ditto for the Hawks before they were contenders.
This past postseason, when the Rangers had a legit shot (not barely squeaking in and easily bowing out), all of a sudden people on my train were decked out in shiny new Rangers' hats. Brand new bumper stickers started appearing on cars on my block (north of the city). There were people shouting "hit him! Shoot the puck!" out of windows on my street and even from apartment buildings up in Albany when I was visiting friends up there. Before the second round of the playoffs? To my knowledge, my window was the only one on the block that had the sounds of hockey blaring out of it, my faded Isles license-plate border was the only hockey paraphernalia on any vehicle on my street, and just one other person in the bagel shop each weekend had a Rangers hat to counter my Isles hat.
If anything, it goes to show exactly what we've all been telling you for weeks...success breeds interest. Bandwagon fans are fickle, but they'll show when there's something worth watching. And NY is full of bandwagon fans (remember all the Dallas Cowboys gear people used to be drowning in back in the 90s?) |

No question PA will get a very nice deal and Garth missed the boat on not trading him. - ses111
PA should be resigned, those 3 will only mold better togehter as time goes on. If PA plays on a different team with new line mates it will take a season before it gells again. How well did blake do here on the Island.. remember.. he failed in Toronto.. just my opinion. |

What is all this " what we've all been telling you for weeks ...success breeds interest " because aside from demanding Charles Wang be the only owner anywhere to pay for his own arena and give you a max payroll at 1980 ticket prices, what's been asked for is not realistic for any owner, and most do not agree on much of anything.
Go check how everyone else got a taxpayer funded building. Wang tried with and without real estate.
Wang has spent hundreds of millions, he got a few weeks of interest in 2002.
Think Quebec, Winnipeg. Minnesota, Colorado or even Atlanta lost their teams and got them back because of interest.
All political and about taxpayer money. Think the potential Coyote owner is getting a fat 17m dollar check a year or Glendale giving the NHL 50m dollars in taxpayer dollars the last two years was about interest in the only team that drew less than the Isles? |

Maybe Espn just covers markets where they need ad bucks and does guess work on the rest? You give these once a year writers on some teams a little too much credit.
Lebrun went from CBC, to Tsn to Espn that lost hockey rights but keeps a few writers.
Look at the other joke, Scott Burnside who was trashing the Devils and Lamoriello.

If Wang is getting nothing from LI let him work out a deal with Brooklyn or Queens. If Wang keeps looking to LI only he has no leverage. Let everyone see him meeting with Brooklyn. Wang has to stop acting like a punching bag. |

Find one person who said we need to spend to the cap ceiling, please. What we've said is to honor the spirit of the cap floor. Not a max payroll. Just a legit minimum one.
We've been telling you that the team will get fan support when it gives people a reason to go. You've been providing examples today of how that is the case for virtually every other sports team in existence. Given that, it shouldn't really be a surprise that Wang got his "few weeks of interest" in 2002...the only year worth watching the team in the last decade.
As far as the other guys and their publicly-financed buildings, I don't know, maybe Wang should take a page out of their book and be as politically savvy as these other guys seem to be. Maybe if Dolan owned the Islanders, we'd have a new publicly-financed building too, since you've gone on and on about all the money he's able to get multiple times from the City for his building.
