I gotta ask.. is Corsby's contract now offically the worst contract in hockey???

Atleast Wang gave DP his BEFORE the injuries.

Its a bad contract due to concussion history. Problem is the NHL wants to do away with long term front loaded contracts and this will be addressed in the new CBA. To keep balance in the league these ridiculous contracts will all come back to haunt the teams that sign them. Luongo has an 11 year deal i think and he is being shopped. DP we all know and Kolvechuck to the list. Quick just signed ten years where does it end. Players agents are running for the long term contract for there players before new CBA comes out. Isles started the trend and it was a bad one.

Contract should be 5 maybe 6 years max. Even 5 and 6 many of these players just float.

Crosby makes $8.7m in every year of his contract, DP makes $4.5m in every year of his, and Quick makes $5.8m in every year of his. None of those 3 are front-loaded.

Nino Niederreiter is developing more of an edge to his game than I'd like. I'd prefer him to be more of a finese player than someone who is overly physical.

I present four regular-season point totals: 69 points, 67 points, 59 points and 57 points.

Now four names, in no particular order: Rick Nash, Zach Parise, Bobby Ryan and P.A. Parenteau.

What might surprise the casual fan is which player generated which point total: Parise with 69 points this season, Parenteau with 67 points, Nash with 59 points and Ryan with 57 points.

OK, I get it. Point totals are only a partial measure of a player’s ability. No question. And it’s clear Parise and Nash stand above in overall talent, with Ryan just a level below.

But Parenteau is an underrated player, one that has flown under the radar because he plied his trade on Long Island. You might argue he boosted his point total only because he played with John Tavares and Matt Moulson. But you could also argue Parenteau’s playmaking abilities helped Tavares and Moulson find the back of the net.

Finally, I get to my point. While you can see the reasoning in what the Columbus Blue Jackets are doing with Nash -- waiting until Parise signs, so that all those teams that struck out on him come scrambling to the Jackets with a re-energized offer for Nash -- it’s not that simple.

It might happen with some teams, but not all.

As pointed out last weekend, Bobby Ryan is another option and one that carries a better contract. Anaheim should get plenty of traction on him once Parise signs.

But even with Ryan, you have to give up good assets to get him.

There sits Parenteau on Sunday as an unrestricted free agent, available without having to give up any assets. Judging from the conversations I’ve had with a few teams over the past week, I think he’s a player that’s going to generate more interest than most people believe.

Quick and Crosby are front-loaded.

Why would anyone not demand front-loaded when a team could decide to buy them out later on if the contract is even every year? Front loading means after a few years when the biggest parts of the contracts are paid they can be traded with their consent.

DiPietro signed his deal before front-loading so he took the biggest risk of a buyout and the loss of a bigger portion of his contract. Of course if he cannot play due to injury insurance pays and the cap hit is removed.

Lebrun is such a joke, what's this Long Island junk, he played in New York. Just because Espn is too cheap to cover them is about Espn Does Columbus, Anaheim and New Jersey not fly under Espn's radar too or does Melrose trashing Newark a few years coverage?

Matthew Wuest fan site for contracts is not an official site, lazy media do reference it.

Rich Hammond works for the Los Angeles Kings and reported the contract is front-loaded:
http://lakingsinsider.com...ees-to-10-year-extension/

Crosby is widely reported to be front-loaded.

Maybe Espn just covers markets where they need ad bucks and does guess work on the rest? You give these once a year writers on some teams a little too much credit.

Lebrun went from CBC, to Tsn to Espn that lost hockey rights but keeps a few writers.

Look at the other joke, Scott Burnside who was trashing the Devils and Lamoriello.

I'm no fan of Burnside. Regarding the Isles they need to be a consistent winner. Especially in NY you better win if you want any sort of attention. There is too much to do in NY and if you have a lousy team good luck in getting any attention from ESPN or anyone else.
