I can't believe Ken Campbell is saying Sundin shouldn't even be in the HOF at all...I can see splitting hairs between Sundin and Shanahan, but c'mon, PPG for 16 years on teams that he was often carrying? It's funny how so many people are saying he only got in because he was a Leaf...looking at the numbers and having watched his entire career I think people are only saying he shouldn't have got in because he was a Leaf.
The fact that Sergei Berezin had a 40+ goal season and Jonas Hoglund had an NHL career at all should get Sundin in - Zezel
Jonas Hoglund. Ouch.
And those two lumbering pylons (Antropov and Poni-boy) actually looked somewhat like top sixers when he carried them, as well.
The Toronto angle is hilarious. If anything, he'd be more likely to get in if he played outside of Toronto. He might have actually gone somewhere like Detroit or stayed with the Nordiques/Avalanche and picked up a couple cup rings. |

If he was not ravaged by injuries his numbers would be up theres with sundins. Is third all time in goals per game I believe.
They both deserve to be there. - TheCouv
Lindros deserves to be there just as much as both those guys |

Yup. His legacy is a little tarnished because of draft day. But that was more his dads fault than his. |

Why is it Sundin that Shanny should have beat out anyways? Sundin deserves it more than Bure. |

I have a funny feeling the Leafs will get Schultz, Crabb has seen his last day as a Leaf, Parros will sign with the Leafs, Toronto will have the tandem of Reimer and Scrivens, and wait for it......................
Parise will be a Leaf come September - Flyers18
I hope to God you are right....but accept for Parros......I'd rather have Crabb actually. I hope we can re-sign him.
And I hope you're wrong about Parise too. Wait for it......
I he will become a Leaf come less than a week.

Yup, carried those guys too. What was amazing with Sundin is he never looked all that flashy, and he was kind of predictable, but you just couldn't stop him. Like everyone knew he would drive down the left side and go around the back of the net protecting the puck, and come out to either dish it off of go backhand. He did it all the time, and it worked continuously. I remember even in his last couple of years in Toronto, you'd often hear commentators say defenseman around the league just don't know what to do with Sundin.

I don't think people look back on that and use it against him really...it's the whole longevity garbage against Lindros and it's irrelevant especially with the monster numbers he put up in his career and was the most dominant and arguably best player in the league at the time....he needs to be in |

maybe, maybe not. A player shouldn't make the hall of fame because he MIGHT have had the numbers if he didn't have injuries. That being said I think Bure's 3 60 goal seasons were impressive |

I would have voted 1. Sakic 2. Shanny 3. Sundin 4... Not Bure. Maybe Roenick. Maybe Oates.
Doesn't the MLB have some sort of system where theoretically, nobody could get in one year? Or at least they aren't committed to inducting a certain number of players every year.
The NHL should consider that. If there aren't 4 HOFers, there aren't 4 HOFers. The end. - Leeman4Gilmour
There were 4 HOF'er this year though...it's a strong class, actually. |

Is being slightly above average for a long time (Sundin) better than being the best player in the league for a limited time (Bure,Lindros)? |

He wasn't good enough to stickhandle the puck and keep his head up, he isn't good enough to be in the HHOF. |

"• Spent 13 seasons with Toronto, 11 as team captain (1997-2008)
• Maple Leafs all-time leader in goals (420) and points (567)"
Either that point total is a typo or we didn't quite have the player we thought. 147 assists in 13 years is more like Domi numbers... when's he eligible?

PPG playmaking, scoring power centre with a total 200 foot game is slightly above average? |

Never not once were Bure or Lindros the "best players" in the league. But yes being a great player consistently is better than being breath taking for a few years.
We might as well toss in Cheechoo into the HOF because he scored 56 goals lol
Take 5 keatondixon |

I was just about to use that example. Well played! If consistency weren't a factor the Hall would be full of Jonathan Cheechoos and Steve Masons. |
