There is no way Suter or Parise seriously considers the Islanders.

I'm not saying they would. But areyou telling me Garth isn't the type of guy to try? He just offered up his entire draft for the 1st or 2nd, shows how he is valuing draft picks these days.

"Come play for the Islanders!!! We'll surround you with talent and make a run at the Cup!...unless I try to trade all 7 picks to move up two spots. Yeah, I do that sometimes; Don't know why...Hey, where are you going?!? I haven't shown you around the ruins of Nassau Coliseum yet!"

I am so happy that the 1st is a Sunday I was worried I would be at work for the Frenzy. If we don't get Parise I will cry.

If it is Pittsburgh and they do sign both Suter and Parise can you imagine the crying from people about how it's unfair that they could do that.

Of course they will say that Bettman rigged it to happen somehow and all the other nonsense we've heard for years.

As for EK's topic, I don't have a problem with teams trading rights at all no matter what teams are involved. So I guess since it's the Penguins that are the rumored team then the topic needs to be raised. If two teams can work out a deal then what's the problem? If a team feels it can't sign their own player and want to get at least something for him then they should be able to deal him for picks. Plus if a team wants to risk trading a pick just for the opportunity to talk to a player knowing that he still might not sign then it really shouldn't be a concern to others. I just don't see a problem with conditional picks if a player does sign with a team.

Plus people are naive to think that there aren't some type of talks going on right now with players around the league. It's just like with football. How the heck do all these players sign multimillion dollar contract within hours of free agency starting? I mean you would think that if they actually didn't talk to teams prior to FA then there would be negotiations going on for days with other teams.

FIST!!!

I think shero got a really good return on staal. I know if I was Carolina I would've just waited one season then got him for nothing. It was nice that shero did in fact trade him to where he wanted to go and not just to the highest bidder. Classy move by both gm's

- howamidointhis

I 100% agree with you. The fact that some people would rather have just let Staal walk as a FA was ludicrous. Shero and Rutheford both handled the situation well.

How many people would actually want to go after Suter with all the defensive depth we have? He's not going to be cheap and even though he has ties to Shero with Nashville I'm not sure I want to pay the price. All of these guys are going to be quite expensive. If I'm Ray Shero I am on the phone with the Blues trying to trade for Chris Stewart's rights. Stewart has the size that Parise does not and would not be as expensive to sign.

Now that the dust settled and I had time to digest the draft I think the pens got worse at the moment. I can't assume suter or Parise will be a pen come July 1st. The roster as it currently sits is worse than last year just by the loss of Staal. If we don't land suter, Ryan, parise will pens fans still be happy? I personally don't really care for suter on this roster. Rather get despres in the lineup also morrow was pretty close to making this roster last year. I'll wait until July 2nd

Just don't take the new hottie to Vegas and end up married before you consider the consequences.

Jus like two years ago when Shero married 2 shiny new objects and it didn't work out. I wonder if it is once bitten twice shy with Shero and his FA dmen signings?

Might not be a unanmous, 'sexy' pick, but PA Parenteau is out there as well for the cheaper.

Unrelated, if the Pens miss on there targets, how does the masses feel about Alexander Semin....

Edit: We could always trade a couple of our 500 D prospects for a solid winger ala Go-Go for Neal or Whitney for Kunitz

- ryman1566

I suggest we keep our D prospects. I love the Dumoulin pickup as well as Ruopp, and our draft was A+++
Parenteau is a possibility and I really like the idea of maybe making a move for Chris Stewart. He intrigues me more than burning money on Parise or Suter. Yes, you'd have to trade for him and re-sign him but hes cheaper and hes also a power forward with more years to contribute

I would say our draft shows thats the case. Suter is only different because he had a hand in drafting him. Suter fits better into what we want to do, which is pair a puck mover with a banger. Plenty of different options, including all near ready prospects too

I'm glad its a Sunday too---I'm almost so pumped about our draft, and how good we can be. Really excited to see Morrow, Despres and Maatta along with Dumoulin and Ruopp

I think plan A and B are interchangeable......that's Parise or Suter. I think one of those names is highly likely. Unless they move Martin, both won't be possible.

The Pens will decide which of their D prospects are untouchable and then package one or more of those prospects in a trade for a wing. They need a skill guy for Crosby and they want to win now. I guarantee you in Crosby's new contract negotiations, the conversation about a skilled winger has already taken place. As a matter of fact, I'd bet the Crosby waits to sign his deal AFTER this years team is largely in place.

Stewart is an intriguing guy, but c'mon, not like he's done enough to make you think he'll become what we need.

I like Parise, just worried that our forwards are to small. Suter is ideal, but I'd just rather not overpay for a defenseman when thats our teams strength.
I'm not sure when it comes to Stewart either. Its probably unlikely just based on the fact that trading for rights is a bit of bad business unless you have some sort of mutual agreement. Its really tough for me to figure which players would fit into a package. Martin is being shopped. Kennedy may be getting shopped and I'd say after Dupuis season he is probably getting some looks too. Lovejoy, Jeffrey, and even Niskanen could be moved.

Well there goes that...not that he was really on the radar. I'm sure Shero would prefer to make a run at someone without having to give much up, aside from $.
Bobby Ryan would be a ridiculous pickup for his contract, but he's going to command quite a bit unless Anaheim decides they don't want to deal with his attitude anymore and just dumps him for the first decent offer. Hopefully, if Philly really goes hard for him, Anaheim makes Holmgren break up his young guns for him. Holmgren is dumb enough to bite if thats the case

I still prefer him to TK when you consider his size and potential. If given the right opportunities he could be a very good addition, but again, its highly unlikely Shero would make a play for him instead of a FA
