Any legitimate poll in DC re: worst athlete would have to list 10 Redskins/Wizards before you got to anyone on the Nats/Caps. Perhaps Redskins/Wizards players were exempted, though, because this poll concerned professional athletes.

How is Nene Hilario doing in the Wizards MadCap?

I don't watch much basketball, but Nene was apparently an upgrade over Javale McGee (of course an empty seat on the bench was an upgrade over McGee). The Wizards/Bullets post-1979 make the Pirates look like a model franchise.

So apparently Ovie is no longer considered the great 8 in DC. Thats funny.

As someone that lives in DC, I can tell you that there are probably enough transplant hockey fans (ie, non-Caps fans) that voted for OV simply because he is a douche. I doubt the poll really reflects the views of most Capitals fans.

I wouldn't hate the signing, but I just think that once Parise lands somewhere, someone is going to panic and give Parenteau too much money.
- rival22

Right. I would probably take him on the team, just not even close to what hes going to sign for after July 1st.

Id wager Mike Green could have cracked the Top-10 list around 8 or 9.

Still, you are correct that 1/2 the Wizards roster, Rex Grossman, and both of the Shanahan's (if coaches are eligible, that is).

I'm pretty sure Shero would rather trade some of our assets to acquire Setoguchi instead of giving big bucks to Parenteau.....and honestly I'd like to see us ship at least 3 pieces of our team for a reshape.

How do you guys feel about the Staal deal? I like what the Pens are doing so far this offseason.

All i'm saying is that I work in an office in downtown DC that has the following hockey fans:

1 Penguins Fan (me)
1 Bruins Fan
1 Blues Fan
1 Flyers Fan
2 Rangers Fans
1 Red Wings Fan
2 Capitals Fans

If you did a poll of the 9 of us on which Capitals player we dislike the most, the non-Caps 7 would totally out-vote the Capitals 2.

I get it. Not that this whole thing matters, but apparently Ovechkin was voted top DC athlete last year and Haynesworth was voted worst. My guess is that "Washingtonian" just makes this stuff up to draw as much attention as possible to a failing magazine. To their credit, I guess it worked. Now I won't think of "Washingtonian" again until the results of next year's poll.

Love it.

Very sad to lose Staal, but if he was going to leave at the end of the year via UFA anyway, at least the Pens got a few very nice pieces of the deal.

Nailed it. It's hard to complain given the bolded part was a forgone conclusion.

Rumors...

I am hearing, according to three sources a Nash deal may be getting closer as it is starting to appear more and more like Zach Parise could be getting an extension in NJ. I will be updating the rumor chart shortly with the latest on Parise and Nash..after a quick meeting I have scheduled with a key source at 4:30.

PANIC....let's pay Parenteau 4 million lol

"meeting with a key source" ?? has got to be his mum.....are you kidding me EK??

Let's see, Ek has been hearing just about every "likely" team. Which will mean he'll end up in Nashville or something.

Problem with Jagr is that he won't take our 2 mil offer..

Parise - Crosby - Jagr
Kunitz - Malkin - Neal

Those are two dangerous lines...

* Just to clarify this: Jagr used to be my favorite penguin and I was disapointed when he chose Philly over us....

Anyway...#68 will always be #68 (Dying alive...sob haha)

I was listening to Tim Benz a couple of weeks ago and they were discussing the possibility of Jagr. Benz said he's talked with someone at the Pens and he said if they see Jagr's agents number on the caller ID, they'll pull the phone cord out of the wall.

Always up for a good laugh! Anyways, if we dont get parise i would be ok, as long as we add some other pieces. A Parenteau or Moss even would be an interesting signing. i personally think that our defense is really good as is. If we sign somebody like a Suter we will definetly be a much better team but we don't need to focus a whole lot on defense. On a new topic, I REALLY like tom kuhnhackl, good offensively and he has a good physical game too. Just can go a little overboard (20 game suspension). What are your opinions on him?

I've been following him a bit since he got drafted and I believe he's a gamer. His father is on HOF in Germany or something like that.

I have better expectations in Kuhnhackl than in Bennett to be honest....sounds like more of a complete package.

Jonathan Bumbulie of the Wilkes-barre beat summed up my thoughts on Parenteau perfectly

@CVBombulie: With all due respect, there are probably a dozen guys in the AHL with very similar skill sets to P.A. Parenteau.

Didn't know anything about him until we drafted him. When i heard his dad was a German HOFer i was in pretty interested. I've followed him since and man can he play hockey. I know this is a stretch, but 1-2 years from now i could see him playing on our 3rd-1st line (I say 1st because i wouldn't touch the Malkin line).
