---@MikeColligan According to @anguscertified, #Canucks inquired on Jordan Staal, asking price from #Pens was Ryan Kesler straight up

Everyone, happy or sad with results after hearing this?

Although Kesler is good---I'm very happy with our haul. Just wondering

I love Ryan Kesler, absent the crooked college he played at. That said, how does that change Pittsburgh? He would still be a third center and he is far from that. What if he wanted the expanded role? Back where we started from. That also doesn't put us in position to go after a Parise or Suter. We would have added to the cap, not subtracted.

Also, the last two or three years, Kesler has missed games at the start do to injuries which required surgery, so ...

[Staal > Kesler] and [Kesler > Sutter], but I still really like the package the Pens got from Carolina going forward. It just opens up a ton of options that weren't available before.

Plus, Kesler is a known quantity; a very good known quantity, but a known quantity nonetheless. I think Sutter is close to what Kesler is now, but still has some more potential he can realize as he's only 23 and can will fill out his 6'3" frame a bit over the coming seasons.

That's more than 3 Hemsky references on one page, as mod of this blog I'm going to have to ask this be stopped immediately.

Thanks everyone.

I think Hindle's last blog was when the Caps were eliminated by the Rags. He does a great job (and frankly it's pretty thankless given the low participation) -- would be ok with infrequent blogs, but you have to have one for the draft, major personnel moves (i.e. hiring a coach) and for free agency. Of course you guys might not have the honor of my presence as often

I saw on twitter that he said he's taking a month off for the first time in 2 years.

My college hockey coach can't say enough good things about Oates and he didn't have too many good things to say most of the time ( at least to us haha). They won a Calder Cup together in Adirondack. I think its a good move. If you get to the SCF though you will probably lose, Oates is snakebit.

What makes you sadder, him or Semin?

Hemsky; I feel bad for him. If his parents had just bought him those figure skates he'd always wanted instead of hockey stuff he'd be a super-star.

Thinking about Semin in a Penguins uniform just makes me really angry.

Same animal IMO ... they both leave me still hungry after watching them play every single time

Semin - lack of effort ... hemsky - lack of production and fragility

Both very skilled, but leave you scratching your head every single time you watch them.

Pass on both ... they both would make me angry if they were Penguins.

How have we divulged into discussing Semin and Hemsky(albeit in jest) from Suter and Parise. Must be the same line of logic Canadianpenfan uses when its getting to be 3am in the bar and his hopes are getting dashed with each passing drink.

We don't have the goods to acquire Ryan. I honestly wouldn't even consider Hemsky at all. Fragile, non productive and a 5 million cap hit the next two years. Plus, Edmonton wants a first plus for that clown. He might be talented, but PASS ...

Speaking of which, just one more week until the Stampede starts.

Ben, if you come down I'll take you drinking and buy you a lapdance. They're actually free if you wait until late enough.

Hey, we've only been to the SCF once -- I think I could probably deal with getting there again and losing.

Wow, quite a day for Oates getting the coaching job in DC and then getting elected to the HOF.

Indeed. I think the Caps may have finally got it right. His work on the pp with the playoffs was very good I thought.

The fact that Fred Shero still isn't in is far more of a headscratcher to me. Shanny's time will come, probably next year, as will Lindros'. But it appears Freddy's never going to make it.

Hopefully Ray doesn't make an angry trade today in response to the terrible HHOF voters.
