Veilleux has always had talent. Just needs to be healthy.

That is correct. I love his tenacity, but his skating and puck handling are pretty good. Has to minimize the fights. Let guys like Steve MacIntyre do that

Im a little worried about parise. I keep hearing he wants to go somewhere where he is the teams go-to-guy. He would be on the go-to-line with parise-crosby-malkin whenever bylsma needs a goal, but im hoping he chooses being on a contending team rather than going to the wild where they may miss the playoffs for another 3 years.

suter would be nice to have, but i would rather take allen and wideman at a combined cap hit of 8 mil rather than suter at 6.5 mil. you could still then trade martin and have plenty enough room to sign whoever you want.

so the pens have 14 mil in cap space and they miss out on suter and parise...who would you like to see signed then

Trust me, you don't want Wideman. His gaffes might be minimized playing on a stronger defensive unit in Pittsburgh (and thus limiting his minutes), but he will frustrate the hell out of you.

As for Parise, from a "good for the game of hockey" viewpoint
, I think it would be fantastic for him to go to Minnesota and help to revive that team. That area deserves to have a good hockey team.

We are trying to help them out by sending Paul Martin there.

Why is that funny ? I like the hire, though of course you never know how guys are going to do until they are in the position. He was a great player, very intelligent. If he can translate that to the current players, it might be a great hire.

If he is able to add some offensive creativity to the commitment to defense that Hunter achieved here in the postseason, he and the team will be successful.

Interested to see how KV fits into Pen's future. I spoke to some reporters who say Shero is very impressed with him. Off topic for sure, but I thought I'd mention it. He's a big tough kid and and maybe an in house upgrade over Vitale and maybe even TK at this point

- HopintheCordoba

This kid has more talent than Tangradi..

I think the addition of Martin and possibly Semin as a UFA could really make them contenders.

"No Alex let's try this again, you want the puck to slide across to your teamate"

"Shoot more?"

"No Alex, this is called a pass, it defined my career"

"Shoot harder?"

"No Alex, you're trying to set your open teamate up to shoot"

"But then he score and not me, I want Bruce back"

I keep seeing Clutterbuck's name come up around here, why would Minny trade him? He's a good player with one more season at a good cap hit, then he's an RFA.

Once Hemsky got his ridiculous contract, NH had to find somebody else to mancrush on.

I think you are right, but then I always think back to the Neal/Niskanen trade and believe that anything is possible if you are dealing with a GM who is stupid enough.

What does he do better?

Edit: They are the same in the faceoff circle (Staal a tick better).

- Gunner Staal

Until I see Sutter on a nightly basis, I can't really say if there are any areas where he is better.

But, one area that I like him better than Staal, is that he's right handed. Vitale had good faceoff numbers, but having Sutter be decent and right handed, it adds some flexibility to important faceoff situations, without having the dropoff in offensive skill that Vitale has.

Rant that nobody will care about : how is there not a Caps blog for the draft and now the hiring of a head coach ? I know that there is little participation from Caps fans on this site, but the same can be said for some other teams who have bloggers that post at least fairly regularly.

Sutter was 17th on the canes with a relative corsi quality of teammates rating of -1.152. That isn't ideal to be in the negative. Means he played a combination of tough minutes with little support.

Staal was 11th on Pens with a .463 rating.

Neal benefited most on either team by a longshot with 4.326

- Gunner Staal

To be honest, I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face Brandon Sutter is better than Jordan Staal. He just isn't. Sutter is a fine player who does a lot of things well; I'm very please to have him on the Penguiins. But Staal is just flat-out stud.

That being said, would I rather have [Jordan Staal for 1 season at @ $4M/yr] or
[Brandon Sutter for 2 seasons @ $2M/yr and then own his rights as a RFA for 1 more year] + [Brian Dmoulin for 3 seasons at $900K and then own his rights a RFA for 4 more years] + [ Derrick Pouliot for 3 seasons at ~$1M/yr and then own his rights a RFA for 4 more years]? I'd opt for the latter. Staal is amazing, but i think the package has much more value in the long-term than 1yr of Staal does in the short-term.

I think that whole "go-to-guy" is nonsense. I mean, if it's that important to be "the" guy he'd better be prepared to lose.....a lot. Every team needs at least a handful of high talent guys to compete for cups. Also, being in NJ is as close as you can get to being "the guy". Other than Kovolchuk, what other front-line forward star do they have? Parise is a very good player, but if he insists on being the best player on the team, that sounds overly selfish and I wouldn't want him on my team anyway.

I really think it not about being "the guy", but more about playing in an exciting, high profile market. Maybe going home is big factor, but I got news for him, Minny ain't winning any time soon.
