I'm not sure what this has to do with Dupuis, he's all world talent! - canadianpenfan
Ha, no denying that. But those are career numbers. If he gets close again---I will take it. But I don't know. He's terrific at just about everything, but his effort and his luck at times gets him alot of good results
As an example I would use S.Pahlsson. He's wearing down but when he won a cup with Moen and Neids on his line they were incredible. I've always thought he was one of the best defensive minded forwards in the league. That was a true shutdown line, they weren't required to score. That's how I view Sutter's role on our team.
Numbers. Don't. Lie. You're wrong.
That's what I would have said.
Staal +11
Sutter -3
However, I think Sutter can be better in the long run and it's going to be his job to be as a 3rd line Center. Staal is now the top liner for the Canes and will need to be a point producer versus a Selke nominee - HopintheCordoba
I think Sutter will be do fine as well.
EDIT: I do think the era of "How the hell am I going to match up with THOSE three guys down the middle" is over, though.

There may be some truth to that. But we haven't seen anything yet. I don't want to limit Sutter to anything. I really like his quickness to break away and his finish on the net. If he can be smart in his own end he is a dangerous player. Deal doesn't get done without him.
No doubt, Pens are still a handful (with or without Ott and/or Parise). Most important thing for the Pens is obviously Crosby staying healthy for the full season.

Interested to see how KV fits into Pen's future. I spoke to some reporters who say Shero is very impressed with him. Off topic for sure, but I thought I'd mention it. He's a big tough kid and and maybe an in house upgrade over Vitale and maybe even TK at this point

Sutter was 17th on the canes with a relative corsi quality of teammates rating of -1.152. That isn't ideal to be in the negative. Means he played a combination of tough minutes with little support.
Staal was 11th on Pens with a .463 rating.
Neal benefited most on either team by a longshot with 4.326

That and finding a way to limit the other team to 6 goals a game or less.
At this point in the offseason, I tend to doubt we will land Suter or Parise. Too many people suggesting it will happen, usually means no chance in hell.
I would like to see some lower priced size come into the forward lines. ie. Prust/Ott and then leave the cap space for potential movement at the deadline If ZP does not come). This is still a cup contender in its current form, although HCDB really needs to commit to an all around style that is not hell bent on north south and more about winning the game at hand.
I like what I have seen from Sutter and the rest of the return on Staal looks like a promising future is ahead. Heck WITH Staal on the ice Philly managed 10 of its 12 PP goals. (when it mattered the most in the playoffs). No real point to be made there but thought I'd throw it in.

It's not always best to use the "bad matchup" excuse (i.e. the Flyers just matched up well with the Pens), but after watching the way everything played out, I have a difficult time believing that Jersey/NYR would have generated enough offense over 7 games to trouble the Pens. The Kings would have been a handful, though.

1st ill move I when I'm ready to. You guys are f'ing nuts. Staal is twice the player of sutter. All I'm saying as of right now the way the roster sits we are primed for another 1st rd exit. I'm willing to wait until we sign some fa's to evaluate our complete roster. All I ask is will you guys still be happy if Shero doesn't land one of the big names? You do realize that could happen?
I have to respectfully disagree. Bylsma has a system in place that requires a stationary defenseman and a puck mover so that you don't have a lot of breakdowns. Philly exploited us and took advantage of their power forward and puck handling offense. I've never seen a team so good at tip-ins. Thats all they do and it killed us. We skated by with our defense in the regular season but it just wont work in the playoffs - HopintheCordoba
I think it was more lack of execution on a lot of the players' parts and a few minor adjustments. Respect your view though. Just agree to disagree I guess.

I'm expecting him not to. The team will be fine though.

I agree, he should get a shot at the lineup this year and with his size, he could be our 4th liner that we miss in mike rupp. I know he wasnt the best skater before so hopefully he has improved and can keep up at the NHL level
So long as he doesnt pull a Michalek and constantly go down to block shots while getting out of position and leaving others hung out to dry. I did find the stat breakdown to be fairly informative. I didnt even know half those stats quoted were tracked.

I thought the same way but who knows, I probably could of had 2 goals the way they were playing. I've never seen a team less prepared for the intensity to ramp up and they tried to trade blows against a deeper team. Signs were evident the last 20 games of the season, but it was the worst conceivable match up, flip the page.
Im a little worried about parise. I keep hearing he wants to go somewhere where he is the teams go-to-guy. He would be on the go-to-line with parise-crosby-malkin whenever bylsma needs a goal, but im hoping he chooses being on a contending team rather than going to the wild where they may miss the playoffs for another 3 years.
suter would be nice to have, but i would rather take allen and wideman at a combined cap hit of 8 mil rather than suter at 6.5 mil. you could still then trade martin and have plenty enough room to sign whoever you want.
so the pens have 14 mil in cap space and they miss out on suter and parise...who would you like to see signed then
