I will support him. I hope he lights it up. I'm just not thrilled with the trade right now.

I wasn't very happy about getting Lupul, but I'm happy to say I was wrong. I hope I can say the same about JVR.

Ditto.

So, with all these d-men, is there any chance we're getting Justin Schultz? Or was drafting Rielly an admission that Schultz isn't happening?

Why would it? Rielly is probably 2-3 years away.

Rielly isn't playing next year. Schultz would be near guaranteed a spot. Look at the list, he has five guys that are in the top six right now. I don't think this changes anything.

anything is possible when FA season opens,so who knows. When will Reilly play? Burke said we have to get bigger up front. Another trade is needed here and probably at least 2/3 signings to address size and toughness. OH pretty please!

Even Phaneuf has only two years left on his contract.

what does you mean?? the results of late, as in Kessel being a top scorer? I don't know what you mean here.
- burn

The results I'm referring to Burn are the results of the team. I guess you and some others here prefer finishing in the bottom 5 with Kessel apart of the team, while I'd prefer finishing bottom 5 of the league with the assets we lost getting Kessel (i.e. keeping our draft picks and developing our young players properly).

There has been zero lift with Kessel, which isn't Kessel's fault, but what exactly do you foresee this team accomplishing before Kessel becomes UFA??

Will the timing of the trade make sense if Kessel doesn't sign an extension?

We are better off now with him. It makes no sense what you're saying.

But would we be better off with the 20 year old assets in a few years, when it might count, or kessel now?

He's right, it was not the right time for the trade. You do that at the end of a rebuild, not the beginning.

Meh. The timing doesn't make a lick of difference.

So you're saying that if CLB got Crosby they'd have made a mistake because It's too soon? BS.

If they gave up the next 5 years of picks to get him they'd probably never go anywhere, even with him.

Burn, I usually find on the right track around here, but I guess we'll agree to to disagree.

To Prock's point, that trade is made when you're looking to add a final piece or two for a Cup run, thus despite getting a great player, the timing in giving up 2 first rounders is beyond awful.

I've always said that I didn't care too much for the kessel deal, not for the timing, but for the 2 1st+. THought it was too much. I've never concerned myself with the when. but to me it's not the worst trade, it gets a bad rap. I'd much rather do the Kessel deal again then trade rask+1st+2nd+4th and get nothing in return. That is so more damaging to the future than overpaying for Kessel because at least with Kessel we got something tangible and something that still has value down the road.

Good Lord let's hope so.

Schenn was barely NHL-calibre last year. If he wasn''t a first round baby, he would have sat most of the year.

Morning Fellas! It's pretty early here on The Rock! Just wanted to wish you all a 'Happy Justin Shultz is officially a UFA day' , although word is that he won't be fielding offers until Wednesday! He will be either a Oiler, Leaf or Red Wing - IMO

It's a hard to compare the two as Luke Schenn's ceiling is an Adam Foote type where as some scouts/reporters have Rielly's upside as a Larry Murphy. Both great players but completely unique in their on sense! Depends on what your team is looking for. I wish Schenn all the best... He is a great young man and was very nice when I met him! Mature beyond his years. But our team needed a big power forward so I will certainly welcome James Van Reimsdyk with open arms
